As the title says this is my first AR purchase followed the advise of most everyone and bought a colt. Used but will suit my needs.

| Mil-Spec tubes have a 1.145" O.D. receiver extension tubes on Colt-manufactured M4 and similar mil-spec tubes. Universal fits larger, 1.17" O.D. commercial carbine receiver extension tubes. Use a set of calipers to measure. Not sure how it is pinned you may be replacing your buffer tube as well. |

All Colt carbines with fixed type collapsible stock (restricted ban type) and standard collapsible stocks are all mil-spec size, so just replace yours either with Colt receiver extension (buffer tube) and either the same M4 type stock body that you have now or you could pick any mil-spec size stock body like Magpul, Vltor, LMT/ B5 SOPMOD, etc.
Just remove your buffer tube and don't remove the stock body from the tube, and sell it at the Equipment Exchange which buyers from ban states will buy it. You might also want to buy a receiver end plate because the one you have are staked to the buffer tube castle nut, you will need a carbine stock wrench if you DIY it, I would also recommend getting a new buffer spring in case the original spring might be worn out, if not keep your new spring as a spare. Colt buffer tubes are mil-spec four position, if you want to have a 6 position tube I would recommend what I have which is a BCM, it have a slightly wider (but still in spec) outer diameter that will make any stock fit slightly tighter and won't wobble. Congrats, it seems you already have a KAC RAS rails, nice. http://www.ar15.com/forums/b/7_Equipment_Exchange.html http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/Milspec-Receiver-Extension-Buffer-Tube-p/bcm%20milspec%20receiver%20extension.htm |
