Having ADCO swap out a flash hider for a brake.  Choosing between the Phantom 5C1 or 2 and the Vortex.  Is one noticeably quieter than the other or do they all seem to be equal?  Getting rid of the Mini Y Comp which is super loud.  I know they can not suppress sound, just wondering if one is better at not increasing sound.

Thanks,

-Coop

I know on the AR performance site they have a chart that compares a few and rates them on flash ,recoil and loudness. looking at some myself.

They're both flash hiders so noise/recoil will be comparable to a regular A2 flash hider, definitely quieter than the comp you're replacing.  The main difference would be flash, the Vortex will produce the least amount of flash but the Phantom is no slouch either.  I have both a 5C1 and Vortex and think they're both great.  I prefer the 5C1 because of asthetics, nothing more.

The vortex is like a tuning fork so you might get a ping sound. Also stuff can get caught in the forks which is why M16 three prong hiders were replaced by A1 bird cages.

No difference in sound.  They are FLASH suppressors.

Vortex is the superiour performer for Flash suppression.  For, me function=form, so the Vortex is prettier too.

Some ring and some don't.  Never bothered me anyway.  Not an issue at all.

I've never did a low-crawl through vines so the "open end" getting tangled is a non-issue for me and probably 99.999% of folks out there.

Of the other two, I prefer the 5C1 for the more traditional look.

Final analysis:  get the Vortex.

ETA:  I always end up posting this link/pic in flash suppressor threads. Click here for more info and plenty of pretty pictures:

I like the Vortex and suspect in may have the edge in flash suppression especially when used with slower burning powders and shorter barrels.

I am currently using Phantoms at this time. On my 16" barrel they suppress flash better that the A2 birdcage does on my 20'' barrel.

Someone mentioned flash hider. Here is a pic.
