i brought a handicapped friend to a gun show this weekend - he was interested in buying an AR so i thought it would be the 'best place' for him to handle a wide range of weapons in the shortest amount of time. He looked at RRA, Bushmaster, Stag, CMMG, Olympic, and a couple of others. He settled on the S&W M&P15 which had a better fit for him with his grip/trigger finger positioning. When i bought my ARs, i never considered that there would be any difference ... He has a big hand and very fat fingers -
my dilemma as his 'advisor' is ... i like this one the least. I was comparing with the PSA internet $599 gun as a starting point and could not justify the S&S with a quad rail/grip pod/laser/light for $950 ... am i missing something with the trigger guard/pistol grip positioing on the S&W // |
Not supposed to be any difference in the lower in that area except for maybe the amount of forging flash that's left inside the trigger guard (a non-issue), however you never know with that collection of brands.
Maybe they had different pistol grips installed? I know some M&Ps come with MagPul MOE pistol grips, while some Oly's have been known to come with "SAW" style grips. That could make a difference. Otherwise, I'd suggest he was having a "placebo effect" trying out different brands and deciding what to settle on. ~Augee |

Maybe it was a Sport? http://www.tactical-life.com/online/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/smith-wesson-mp15-sport-556mm-c.jpg Ah....I didn't even know S&W offered anything with a non-standard lower. I have a Gen II Noveske lower with an integral trigger guard similar to that. That's about the only way any of them would feel any different, but even then there's only a handful of grips, like Tango Downs, that won't fit on those. I'd still go for whatever AR I like and then pick a grip that fits my hand. I'm kinda partial to the Hogue myself. |
