Im new to guns, as of right now I own an ak and thats it. Within the next couple weeks I plan on buying this...
http://www.impactguns.com/sw-mp15t-tactical-811041-022188145717.aspx The M&P 15T, so frankly im confused by the 2 different rounds I can use, my gun is going to be mostly for coyote hunting, money doesn't really matter to me much so what would be the best round I should start stocking up on for that gun. Also I plan on buying all magpul dark earth front slant, grip, couple mags and stock. Whats the best scope for what Im planning on doing? Mostly dark or winter coyote hunting. Also right away I will be buying a BCG from BCM I believe it is. Anything I should know? Be expecting? Thanks in advance for all the help looking forward to really being part of the community! Also is it possible to upgrade stuff such as a stainless steel barrel or is that really not needed? |

.223 and 5.56 are essentially the same round, with the 5.56 being loaded to higher pressures.
you can safely shoot .223 out of a 5.56 chamber, but not the other way around. why do you plan on replacing the BCG? barrel? as for the scope, what ranges are you looking at? what's your price range? optics can range from $75 chicom crap to $2000 S&B/US Optics |

yeah i dont wanna spam too much about the rounds because i realize there is a whole nother forum for that, is it more of a personal preference then or is there a grain i should be looking for for the 1:8 twist? Like i said im just getting into it. Ive seen some reviews of the BCG getting stress cracks and such so i figure it cant hurt nothing possibly be a good upgrade i would think, the barrel im not too worried about just wanting to know how easy they are to swap out?
and the scope would mostly be 250 yards or less i would think, would like to be in the 500 ish dollar range or less but i also am a firm believer that you get what you pay for... so i dont wanna go too cheap. |

It's a waste of money. barrel swapping is very easy with the correct tools, there are several tacked threads in the build it yourself forum with step by step directions. |

Listen to what Hellbound and others here have to say. They are VERY knowledgeable. For 250 yards or less, I like a 1-4x optic. You can adjust it to 4x for longer shots and 1x for close in faster shots. I am not as fast in acquiring the target with it set at 1x as I am with a red dot, mainly due to eye relief. However, I really like 1-4x optics. For $500, you can get some very good ones.
ETA - For ammo I like Federal XM193 or Russian Brown or Silver Bear for plinking. My HD/SD round is Black Hills MK262. You could also look at Hornady TAP among others for quality ammo. I don't hunt, so I'm not up to speed on the best hunting rounds. |

alright thank you very much for your help, so no real brand name or round preference by you? for general paper punching, i use Federal XM193 or Remington UMC 5.56mm 55gr FMJ. For HD/SD, either hornady TAP 75gr or Black Hills 75gr OTM. as for coyote slaying, I just don't know. I'm sure some of the hunter types will be along to help you out, but I don't think you can go wrong sticking with any of the big name brands and avoiding the gimmick stuff... so Hornady VMAX 50-55gr, Federal VSHOK 55gr Sierra GameKing, etc all rifles are different, so there is going to be some trial and error to find the best factory round for yours, until of course you start reloading... |

alright i will still looking at those scopes, thank you very much aswell for your insight.
we have alot of acrage as well as a couple ranged right around the block but different ammo for plinking and shooting/hunting isnt really a big deal im just going to look for one clean round and stock up maybe in some different grains to test. i guess im just used to the dirty ammo and different types because of my ak. so this gun it wont hurt anything shooting the 5.56 but the .223 would be better for hunting or no? im still trying to read the other threads as well as keep checking this one haha. |

| For hunting applications, I really like the 62gr. Federal Fusion. It shoots a spitzer (soft point) round and can be very accurate if you do your part. I also recommend a 20 round magazine (maybe less) for hunting. My personal opinion is that the 30 rounders are too long for hunting. Sneaking in the woods, climbing ladders, inside ground blinds, etc. You want to minimize your shape and size, so I find the 20s to be a much better choice. |
