I want to build the shortest and lightest AR15 that I can, what barrel, stock, forend and accesories would be best for a build like this?
What are your thoughts on an 14.5" barrel with a permantly attached flash hider to make it 16", would that be legal in FL? |

Wow, this is popping up a lot lately....
Lightweight pic thread with good info... HERE Polymer lowers lighten the load...think Cavalry arms (if you can find one). Stock choice is HUGE when it comes to weight...typical 4-6pos. being one of the lightest. Barrel contour...a true ligthweight (.625 gas block) or something along the lines of Bushmaster's Superlight contour. Handguards are also huge weight savers (carbon fiber free float). Of course, if you truly need LIGHT a 14.5 pinned will shave an ounce or three...as will a slickside 9mm upper from M1s or RRA...you can shave a FSB down to about 1.5oz, or get a micro gas block down around 1.1oz...grip choice can save an ounce or two....lightweight bolt carrier for a couple more ounces..."speed hammer" mod for a fraction of an ounce...etc. Lightweight becomes a balance of 1. Long Term Reliability 2. Cost My carvarms w/ RRA 9mm upper and DD 14.5pinned Lightweight upper and a micro dot should be under 5lbs with optic / no mag. |

Colt & Double Star make lightweight barrels also. advntrjnky Here's one from DSA What kind of weight savings do you think this would offer? That flash hider has to be lighter than barrel. . . |

DPMS "oracle" or something along those lines.
Cheap lightweight...if you shop smart you can buy a COMPLETE rifle kit for around $450, just add lower receiver and you're done...runs 6lbs or a tad under. Swap gas block, handguard, and some trinkets and 5bls is attainable....cheaply.... BUT, the vast majority of the lower end "lightweight" barrels aren't really lightweights. Most have .750 gas glocks and slightly thicker contours... |
