Hey guys.  In probably 1k, or so, rounds I've had about 3 feed malfunctions.  I wouldn't be too worried, except that they are all the same malfunction and I got a pretty serious jam out of the last one.

All 3 times the bolt picked up the round and 1/2 fed it into the chamber.  It then gets pinched between the feed ramps and the bolt leaving a pretty good dimple in the casing from the feed ramps.  The first couple times I dropped the mag and ejected the round by pulling back on the charge handle.  The last time the round actually chambered and got jammed.  The bolt was locked onto the back of the casing (by the ejector).  Casing stuck in the chamber.  Bolt not fully into battery.  I couldn't remove the upper because the bolt carrier was still in the buffer tube.  After all but giving up I gave the charge handle a couple more good tugs and got the round out of the chamber.

I'm thinking I may need to try a couple different mags.  I don't think it's a problem with buffer weight or gas, but I could be wrong.  It's almost like the bolt is coming forward too quickly.  Maybe the bullet is bouncing up the feed ramp and jamming in the corner of the receiver?

I'm running Pro-Mag steel mags in a Model 1 upper with a ER-shaw barrel.  I know there will be plenty that tell me to get a new upper, but for now the Model 1 is what I've got.  Maybe try some Magpul p-mags with it?  So far it's happened with Fiocci and Federal ammo.  Both 55 grain.  Both .223

Ideas are appreciated.

Are you lubing it well?  What ammo are you using?

If the above are good, I would lean towards the mags being your problem.  The springs may not be bringing the next round up fast enough.  Pro-Mag is know for quality.

Get some decent mags and see if it ever happens again.  (Pmags, Lancer, Any of the USGI mags with good followers)

I have a similar problem but it only happens after 600 rounds or more without a cleaning. I think mine is due to a non-standard action spring. I'm going back to stock.

Pro Mag? That would be a red flag for me because that company has been well known for putting out garbage for around 20 years. Their Saiga 12 drums are ok. Try some PMAGs. I'm particualrly fond of the PMAG 20 rounders, but all of the 30 rounders that I have tried have fed flawlessly.... windowed and non.

Sounds good.  I'll try some different mags.

The gun was oiled well, but the chamber hadn't been cleaned in a couple hundred rounds.  It was a bit dirty, but not terrible.  I cleaned it thoroughly, so we'll see what happens.  I'll get some p-mags on order.

Thanks for the input guys.

Pro-Mag , there is the problem.

Get a few good quality USGI or PMag magazines to end your suffering.
