Stupid question.
I have a carry handle upper and want to put a flat top on it. Do I have to remove the gas tube, then remove the barrel? Or can I pull the barrel with the gas tube attached? Thanks |

Remove hand guards.
Drive out roll pin retaining gas tube and remove gas tube. Unscrew barrel nut from old upper. Moly grease new upper threads and reinstall barrel nut per the TM. Reinstall gas tube and be sure to correctly install the roll pin. Replace handguards. Test fire to make sure everything went together correctly. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Yes. The gas tube will prevent you from loosening the barrel nut This. If you've shot it quite a bit just a friendly tip spray the gas tube where it enters the fsb liberally with kroil / your best penetrating lube repeatedly starting now untill you get ready to pull it. It will make it much easier sometimes they are really tight when an uppers been shot a lot. (vise grips and a hammer are your friend )

Yes a little penetrating oil in the pin on the FSB while you start with the handgaurds and other things will make it easier when you get to that point. I use stuff called Mouse Milk. |
