I would like to buy my first 2 AR's. A 223 and a larger califber, maybe .308.
Before adding accessories, I want to stay in an entry level price, $1000 or less for the 223 and I'm sure it will be more for the 308.
I would like to get some decent accuracy, but I keep hearing you don't buy an AR for good accuracy.
I have bolt action Remington 700s right now and would like to stay close to the accuracy with those.
Are there certain brands and or models to look for?
I know of a $3500 AR that claims 2" groups at 600 yards, but I don't really want to spend $3500.
Am I dreaming to think I'll get something with 1/2" groups at 100 yards for $1000 or less?
( I realize my own shooting skill will be the biggest limiting factor)
Thanks,
Al

I'd go with something with a SS barrel chambered for .223 with a 1:8 twist, a free float rail and a nice trigger will help out too. Then just get some good match ammunition like a 69 or 77gr SMK.

The RRA varmiter (predator pursuit) would be a good choice around-ish your price range.

Most all of the reputable SS barrels these days are sub-MOA, and even some of the non-SS.  AR's are inherintly accurate rifles for a semi auto.. now if your version of accurate is 1/2" at 600 yards . well thats not even in the same ballpark for ARs, its a whole different game.. the bolt gun game, and even then your looking at thousands upon thousands of dollars in a bench rest vice.

The 600 yard AR was at 2" and I don't expect anything like that.  1/2" or so at 100 would be great.
I know a lot of you guys build your own, but I was going to start out with a complete out of the box AR for my first.
Any brands I should be looking at or staying away from?
