Is the switchblock necessary for a suppressed 10.5 inch barrel in 5.56?
All the U.S. MK18's seem to run fine without adjustable gas blocks.
Will it really run more reliably?  Anyone have experience with these?

Not necessary but it really slows down the bolt an keeps gas out of your face.

It's not necessarily but it is nice to have. The suppressed setting will have less gas blowback when using a suppressor. Also if you have an M-16 the rate of fire increases when you attach a suppressor, but the suppressor setting keeps the RPM's down to normal. Also if you want to be really quiet there is the single shot setting which cuts off the gas completely. The only thing i don't like about the Noveske switchblock is that it gets hot, so changing settings during use requires thick gloves or a tool.

I've come to believe that a small ported permanently suppressed SBR is best. But that's still a rare opinion.

Great picture Stickman, that is the exact upper I think I am going to get.

That particular upper ran great in a class for awhile, and then started to develop problems.  I wasn't the person shooting it, so you can imagine my surprise when I took it apart when I got home and found large chunks of paper inside the upper and in the bolt carrier.  I can't figure out how they got in there, or how the upper was able to function at all.
