Hello everybody,
I am currently considering buying my second AR-15. I already own a DSA lower and Spikes Tactical M4 upper which has been 100% reliable since day one with ~400 rounds .223 and another 100 rounds of 5.56 xm193. I bought this rifle way back in April of 2010 so that should tell you that I don't have many chances to shoot. That said, I am considering building an AR-15 this time, specifically a Del-Ton 20" lightweight rifle kit. For some time I've wanted a simple, lightweight, but dependable 20" AR-15. These uppers really impressed me at gun shows compared to my comparatively heavy Spikes upper (which I outfitted with a YHM free float rail). Now I know that two documented benefits to chrome-lining are ease of cleaning and extended barrel life. These are not important to me, again, because I do not shoot my rifles very often. That said, it is claimed that chrome-lining helps ease the extraction process. Is there any evidence of this (torture tests I mean) enhanced extraction? Could regular cleaning and an extractor spring upgrade give me enhanced reliability? |
