I just aquired a Colt MT6731. It has a 16" barrel, a plastic stock and weighs 7.3 lbs.. I have shot it and it seems to work fine. I see on the Colt web site that they also make an MT6400 with a fixed (pinned?) collapsible stock, a 16" m4 style barrel and weighs 5.95 lbs.. I like the look of the MT6400 as it looks somewhat like the LE6920 M4 carbine but doesn't have the flash suppressor, the bayonet lug or the adjustable stock, which makes it legal in the State of NY where I live.
My question is: Can I change the barrel on the MT6731 to an M4 style, and the stock to a pinned collapsable style? If this is possible, would I have to change the hand guard also? Are original Colt parts available? If everything was changed, would the weight of the gun be reduced to about the same weight as the MT6400? Last question, if I did change the barrel could I also change to a faster twist? Thanks, Lee |

Thanks, Lee Yep, you can switch barrels, I do it quite often to my stock Colts, like switching to a 14.5" M4 barrel, or substituting an A2 barrel for the heaver one. You can use whatever twist rate you want. Handguards are the same as well. With M4 barrel should weigh about the same as a 6400. You can change stocks, just get a carbine buffer and tube and have someone pin the stock. |
