Why does it have the ability to swing open?
I hate to admit this, but last night I was doing my lower build, it was late, I was tired and uptight and I should have put it off for another day. Well, I drove a roll pin in through the trigger guard on the opposite side from the detent pin, effectively locking it in place. :slapforehead: I immediately put the lower down for the night after I realized what I did. How bad is this fuck up? |

it swings open for using with gloves, to give the shooter more room.
I have no clue how to get the pin out, never heard of anyone doing that before. You may get some good suggestions by posting about it in the "Build It Yourself" forum. ETA: So you are saying you put the trigger guard in with the spring loaded detent on the grip side instead of the mag well side, & you have the roll pin in as far as it will drive? If so I would just line the detent up with the hole on the grip side & snap it into place. It would be strong enough to hold it in place, & it sure beats trying to pull that pin out & chance breaking one of the trigger guard tabs (or ears as they are commonly called) off. 86HMMWV's idea is much better. |

One way that comes to my mind is to use a small cutoff wheel to cut the trigger guard shorter towards the base that the roll pin is in, then use the cutoff wheel to cut the roll pin (and portion of the trigger guard) in half. |

That may be the way to do it. I was thinking of drilling it out. Don't want to fuck up the lower though. |

I have spares & can send you one. ETA: If you do this, after you get it to where you are ready to punch the pin the rest of the way out be sure you support that ear in some way. |

Then use the new small hole in the receiver as a guide hole to drill from the other side with a bit the same size as the roll pin, and drive the pin through. You would only have one small new hole in the lower. |

Thanks, I may have to take you up on that. When I get home this evening and check out last nights handiwork and then decide which method I'm going to try. Probably the cutting of the guard. I've been kicking myself all day for this. It's what I get for getting anxious to put it together. |

It was not easy but I was able to cut the trigger guard out with the dremil and get the pin out with only a slight maring of the lower (Spikes) finish. All I can say is what a pain in my ass.
My big lesson from this; Take the time and do it right instead of rushing into something when you are not ready to be doing it! Anyway guys, thanks for the help. |
