Hi all, newb here. I've been browsing around the site for a couple weeks and am loving the content. I'll be in the market for my first AR in the next month and wanted to get y'alls opinion.
At a local gun show last year, I stopped by the Quality Arms booth because the guy was really loud and passionate about his product. His claim is that they have the best production trigger in the industry. he had a side-by-side comparison of their trigger and a competitors (wouldn't disclose whose) that he said represented a typical production trigger. The only experience I have with the platform is plinking with a friend's AR a few years ago and it has been so long that I really can't remember what the trigger was like. Anyways, the Quality Arms trigger was really nice compared to the "competition's". Before really starting to research deeply into this forum and another, I contacted them for a quote on customizing this rifle with a quad rail or MOE handguard, an A.R.M.S. #41 front sight, and a 1:7 chrome lined barrel. They quoted me just shy of <$1000 for the quad rail hand guard and sight, but advised me against the chrome lined barrel stating the chrome wears off the peaks of the rifling and that it is not as accurate as a standard chrome moly barrel. My question to y'all, is if their advice is sound, and whether anyone has experience with their product. Has anyone compared their trigger with any of the triggers on any of the proven brands such as Spike's, BCM, LMT, Colt, etc? They replied to my inquiry very quickly so I have pretty good confidence in their Customer Service if I ever need it, but I'm a lil worried about how long they have been/will be in business. I can't find anything on their site that states how long they've been around and a lifetime warranty is only good if the company is still in business if it is ever needed. Thanks in advance for any input y'all have and I look forward to reading all this content and becoming an active member of this forum. |
| To be honest, I've never heard of them. Go with a brand with a good track record, Colt, Spike's BCM, LMT, Rock River, Armalite, Doublestar,to name a few. Why take a chance on an unknown? That stuff about the chrome lined barrel is a load of BS he's feeding you. He just wants to sell you HIS product, that's why he's bad mouthing them. For $1000 you can get a Colt SP6920, the Gold Standard (IMHO) and $34 for the MOE handguards. I'd definitely look elsewhere. |
| That's what I've been starting to lean towards. I'm really liking the price and reputation that Spike's has. Brownell's has a complete lower for $250 and Primary Arms has a complete upper for $500. I wish I had the money to get them right now, because I'm under the impression that with Spike's, you could be waiting a while for backorders. I'm hoping that Primary has the midlength upper in stock when I do have the fundage because I'm leaning more that way over the carbine length gas system. But there are soooooo many options, I almost can't make up my mind. LOL |

Check out Palmetto State Armory, they are up and coming and seem to developing a good rep for quality. They may have the same problem with being out of stock though.

At a local gun show last year, first mistake... NEVER buy an AR at a gun show... period... not unless it is a STEAL. I stopped by the Quality Arms booth because the guy was really loud and passionate about his product. His claim is that they have the best production trigger in the industry. he had a side-by-side comparison of their trigger and a competitors (wouldn't disclose whose) that he said represented a typical production trigger. Why is their production trigger so good? probably hand finish them... thus wearing off the surface hardening... productions triggers are mass produced... and not only can you NOT judge them by a sample size of one (not to mention a handpicked sample obviously) but milspec triggers are SUPPOSED to be crappy until you shoot the hell out of them... this breaks them in, gets your own tactile responses trained, and prepares you to appreciate the upgrade to a Geissele. The only experience I have with the platform is plinking with a friend's AR a few years ago and it has been so long that I really can't remember what the trigger was like. They quoted me just shy of <$1000 for the quad rail hand guard and sight, but advised me against the chrome lined barrel stating the chrome wears off the peaks of the rifling and that it is not as accurate as a standard chrome moly barrel. while a chromelined barrel is not as accurate as a non CL... (this is due to the way they are manufactured, 99% of the companies make the barrel completely - then use a chemical to etch out the bore a bit - then they apply the chromelining, which brings it back to the proper dimensions again... this process is not an exact science and creates inconsistencies in the bore ... thus not as accurate.) while it is not as accurate as a non-CL... 99% of shooters won't be able to tell the accuracy difference... i recommend to start with a CL if you must... then later upgrade to a stainless when you feel you are better than your barrel. This deal with CL flaking off? poppycock. My question to y'all, is if their advice is sound, and whether anyone has experience with their product. I saw those MOE Spike's, but was thinking that they're the same as this but with the MOE furniture(please correct me if I'm wrong). I can put an MOE on that upper for WAY less than the upcharge for it on the CHF upper. |

COMPLETELY worth the extra scratch. that is a $225 BCG alone. and imo the BEST bcgs on the market today bar none. |

I will definitely look at that upper over the one from Primary when I get the scratch together. I really appreciate everyone's input. |
| Not sure if you have had a chance to purchase anything yet. But I have to add some comment here. I would like to know where all these examples have come from? Quality Arms makes a great gun and in my experience has more personal contact than any of the companies I have had dealings with before. Last time I tried ordering a gun for a customer from Rock River, it was 3 months out. LMT longer. So a small company makes a good gun and now everyone on this thread is immediately down on them. Go figure ! As for the discussion on chrome lining blowing out, try it. I have seen flaking chrome out of an AR at 1500 rounds, it is a thin wear item and it wears out. Yes most people will not notice a difference in accuracy, but that matters little, the argument is academic. Have a look around and fine a company which gives you better service, because sometimes the big companies are less than helpful when there are issues, yeah they are sooooo fast, when or if you have a problem. |

Jcrotch––- I don't work for Quality Arms and you asking that from my last post is ignorant You either work for them or fell for his pitch as well. Its pretty telling in that post of yours... And that fact you think were so dense we cant tell is more ignorant.
