I thought I would see if anyone had a similar problem before I break out the drimel and sandpaper.
I have an ops Inc 12 collar I can't seem to get to fit on my barrel. I removed the set screw completely and it still will not slide down to fit. It seems that the muzzle end of the collar is too small for the barrel as there appears to be a small lip on the inside. Before we start, I have a BCM ion bond spr barrel with the shelf, so I don't think that's the problem. I did get the brake and collar new off of either gun broker or thee ee some time ago, but it was still in the packaging with the instructions. Are these collars supposed to be that tight? Should I try to force it on, sand it down, or send it back? Thanks in advance. |
| Use heat. You can put the barrel in a freezer over night and use a heat gun or go easy with a propane torch on the collar. We are only dealing with .001" difference give or take. Make sure you use heavy leather gloves and that the collar is exactly where you want it when you're done. When parts are fitted this close they tend to be hard to remove later on. |

Not thick. Just the standard ion bond. After looking at it really closely, I think the lip on the muzzle end of the collar is hitting the end of the barrel pretty solid. The brake fits and works fine and is the 12th model. Is there a different size collar they make?
I guess it could be the barrel, is anyone having any issues with the BCM 18'' ionbond? Sorry for all the questions, I have a small sample size of 1 each and are trying to troubleshoot this out. |

Update: I called Ops Inc to try and troubleshoot what might be the problem. They put me in touch with one of thier engineers and after sending pics and measurements in, discovered that I was sent a collar for a M4. I bought this set duing the period after the election when parts were scarce from a gunshop in Missouri I can't even remember the name of.
Ops Inc went way further above and beyond what they had to. Though no fault of thier own, they sent me a new collar free of charge and would't even let me cover the shipping! Ops Inc. is an awesome company and has some of the best CS out there. I felt it was the least I could do to let my fellow black rifle enthusiasts they're one of the good guys. Thanks again from a customer for life |
