I'll start by saying I do not know what caused (and at this point what the solution is to) the problem. I wasn't shooting this rifle, and it isn't mine. In no way am I trying to bash Bushmaster or ARMSCORP.
Brand spanking new Bushmaster Carbon 15 (5.56), shooting ARMSCORP .223 55gr ammo. The guys shooting it got 11 rounds through it, and on the 11th round the BCG did NOT completely cycle (I THINK). I THINK it stripped a round and pushed it part way into the chamber but we couldn't tell. We couldn't pull the charging handle back far enough to check the chamber, nor would the forward assist allow us to force the bolt forward. We couldn't get the firing pin to drop on the round and firearm would NOT flip from F to S. They even tried (against my advice and that of the RO) to take the upper off of the lower, but the rifle wouldn't separate. We aren't sure whether the round in the chamber has fired or not (guys shooting didn't think it fired). I am completely stumped and have no clue what to do. ETA: Just spoke to the guys at the range and according to them, it was an ammo issue. The ammo was out of spec where the case meets the bullet and once they cleared the issue (by using a rubber mallet on the forward assist to fully seat the round) then changed ammo, it was shooting like a champ. ETA: Changed title to accurately reflect cause of issue. |
