Well, I'm finally jumping into the AR-15 field! I've been looking at mostly pre-built guns for a while, but have had more of a desire to build. Typically, I research something until I'm 100% sure of what I want, and then some. However, I picked up a Spikes receiver at a gun show yesterday and also grabbed a DPMS lower receiver parts kit and a DPMS collapsible stock. It's been a few years since I built my 1911, so the building itch has hit me pretty hard again.
I'm currently trying to decide on an upper. My use for this build (being my first AR), would be mostly a small-game gun and range gun. I'm also going to dropping in the CMMG conversion for the indoor range, since they only alIow up to .22lr for rifle. I care about accuracy and love to be able to customize, so having extra rails on the handguard would be nice, but that can change later if needed. Currently, I'm thinking of starting it out with iron sights, so I can get a better than entry level upper, but will move to a scope within a few months. If anyone has a recommendation for a good upper for my situation, I'd love to hear it. I've found great information here already and am excited to learn more! |

Delton has some good kit packages for a low price; however; you need to call to verify what is in stock.
BCM has (had because they are out of about everything) really nice 'upper' end stuff at a good price. I am waiting for some of these suppliers to get caught up; have 3 lowers that need assembly. |

I was hoping to find a mid with their BAR rail, but I can always stick one on later if I still want it. Guess that's more money I can stick into the optics. |
