Does anyone know the TM or maintanence manual number for performing headspace for the M16 and M14. I work for the gov but they are no help. Have been to biggerhammer but have not found what Im looking for. If anyone has worked for the armory is there a routine maint. schedule? Any help will be appreciated.

I think it is TM9-1005-319-213 M16 Maintenance.

ETA:  Actually, I think I am wrong...but here is a link to the above manual just in case you want it anyway

Thanks. This info is what I have been looking for. I have spent a few years calibrating headspace gages but have never actually performed the check on the rifle. One last question for the users out there. When using the headspace gage part no. 7799734 why do the ends of the gage get so chewed up. Are the techs accidentaly letting the bolt go on it somehow. By looking at the manual at a glance the pictures describe finger pressure only with the upper and lower separated. Thanks again to those who replied.

If the bolt won't close on the gauge....sometimes techs will "tap" it with something made of metal and that will make the difference. No, we are NOT supposed to do this....and don't tell metrology dept!
