I am looking for any input from someone with any hands on experience with the Aero Precision or Armalite COP system. I was curious about the overall diameter of the rail (profile) and how solid a platform it is.
Thanks.. |

I like mine and they are absolutely my favorite uppers....
For visual reference, the carbine model has a 10.5" barrel and the midlength model has a 12.5" barrel. The C.O.P. is the most versatile truly monolithic AR upper on the market, to my knowledge. The interchangeable rail panels are just one of the genius elements of its design. Where the upper turns into quad rail, there is a nice angled portion for those of you that to hold the weapon by the magwell. The fit and finish are nothing short of excellent and they are certainly a quality product. The slow sales of the carbine and middy models are prohibiting production of the rifle length model. This is not speculation. I called Aero Precision to find out when the rifle model would be out and that was the response that I got, but I learned that the middy was out and went ahead and bought one. It is perfect with this 12.5" barrel. I wanted a VLTOR VIS for a while and I am glad that I never found a good deal on one. From what I understand, the C.O.P. is narrower and lighter than comparable VIS uppers. Hurry up guys.... I want a rifle length C.O.P. !!!! The carbine model and the midlength model should be in stock at surplusammo.com Is it solid? Is that a trick question? Hell yes it's solid " />

thanks for the quick response.. there doesnt seem to be too much feedback on this particular system and ive been trying to get as much info as possible before placing an order. i read somewhere that the handguard portion of the upper was a bit wider than the "avg" handguard. would you consider this accurate? also.. would the cop be comprable to a standard upper and hanguard in weight? ive read that the vis is heavier and i wasnt for sure if the cop was the same.
thanks... |

It is slightly wider than my DD Literails, which are fairly narrow for a quad. That being said, the COP is quite a bit narrower than the YHM quads that I owned in the past also.. would the cop be comprable to a standard upper and hanguard in weight? If you are referring to a standard carbine upper and plastic handguards, then it is heavier, but still light for a monolithic quad ive read that the vis is heavier and i wasnt for sure if the cop was the same. The COP is lighter than the VIS thanks... I did a lot of research on these before I bought the first one and I feel it is superior to all other mono/poly uppers that do not require a proprietary barrel. I am very satisfied with both of them and would swap out all of my other uppers for the COP if I had the money to spend right now. |

Bob,
+1 Nice rifle. I agree. It is nice to put rails, half rails, smooth panels, rails with QD, or a smooth/QD panel where you want them. The versatility and personalization were the big +s for me. I have a thing for monos as well. It seems like the C.O.P. is all of the good things rolled into one product. On the price, I believe they are the least expensive mono on the market. |

I have the carbine and mid length and love them both. The carbine length is on a 9mm SBR upper w/ a 10.5" barrell, the mid length is on a 11.5" 5.56mm SBR. If I was doing anohter build I would buy one in a minute. Pics when i get a chance Sounds like you need the rifle model too |

Whenever I get around to doing (figuring out what I want actually) my next build, I'll likely use one of their mid length uppers. I like the ability to use the pieces I want and put the rails where I want. These things are pretty damn solid too. I've built a few of these for the store and am impressed.
They are lighter than the VIS, but their weight can vary depending on which rail pieces you install. The full railed pieces will be heavier than the plain. Also the plain are thinner than the railed, so the width and height will vary from build to build. With the railed side pieces they are wider than a Daniel Defense, but thinner than a YHM. |

I'm looking at the Carbine Upper, but I can't get SurplusAmmo.com on the phone to answer questions.
I've got a Form1 in at the BATF to SBR my current lower, so getting this upper with a free lower (they offer one of 3 options with purchase of the Aero COP, 1) Free shipping 2) Free Aero Lower 3) Free SurplusAmmo.com complete bolt and Bolt Carrier Group) would kill 2 birds with one stone. It would allow me to move my SPR-ish upper over to the AeroPrecision lower and allow me to start acquiring parts for my future SBR upper to go on my NFA legal SBR lower. ETA: As I was hitting "Submit" on this post, Dylan from SurplusAmmo.com answered my email and my questions.. |

The website and the store. I work in the store itself. The web sales once in a while get backed up and orders can take a day to get processed. If you don't get an answer on the phone, leave a message and probably call back. An email to Dylan will also be answered fairly quickly and might be the best bet. |

Another question. How long is the rail system portion of the Carbine version? 7 inch? I'm eventually going to suppress this bad boy and a Noveske Switchblock 12.5" would be NIIIIIIIIIICE, if it'll fit. If you use a carbine version, the switchblock will be outside of the rail just like any other carbine length handguard. |

Thanks gunshine... And like I said... as I was typing my little gripe, Dylan answered my email. Was helpful and courteous. Very good CS. Can't wait to build this weapon.... and post pics Yes, so true. Problem is, my stamp is still pending, so I have to wait for that to clear BATF. No reason (unless I really [censored] up the paperwork) that it shouldn't. But until that happens, I won't purchase the barrel. Since the BATF knows that I am interested in building one, I don't want to give them reason to think I have built one without their approval. I don't want to go to "Federal pound me in the ass prison" |
