| Why does the AR platform have a flat bottom removeable trigger bottom plate? What purpose did it surve in the original design? Why has it survived this long? |
|
Are you talking about the trigger guard? If so, the standard trigger guard is quite adequate for the purpose it serves. If you need more room, simply fold it down.
ETA: Also, it's not removable. It only flips downward in order to provide more room for users with gloves and the like. |
| The AR15/M16 wasnt designed for Vietnam. It just happened that way, when my dad went over in 1965 they were using M14 and Thompsons. Again I would say it was a manufacturing issue that just made it easier/faster/cheaper to do it the way they did. Notice how theres a straigtline along the bottom of the receiver? |

By removable, I meant removable without using any special tools that wouldn't be readily available in the field, such as a hammer and pin punch. |
| No shit! tuff crowd was looking for explanation not to critizie it's creator!, Just doesn't seem like a well thought out design, one of the first things I did was change the trigger lower guard to a more functional design in my opinion. Not to mention a more esthetic design. Whatever? |

Ok, was the original design created when gloves were needed in the jungle of Nam? why are the drop designed better than a fixed open style to accomidate gloves, big fingers etc...? I believe it was for arctic environments, when soldiers had artic gloves and whatnot on, but im sure its the same as far as gloves and being in the jungle or whatnot. A thick glove wont fit as easily. I think its kind of a cool idea. |

Also think original trials were done in cold weather climate in the late 50's. Actually trigger guard is a decent design but each their own. |
