    Hi Guys

I have been away from building AR15's for a few years now and I need to build a couple for my Father and Nephew.

I am looking for inexpensive carbine kits with chrome lined barrels. I think they are leaning towards A3's but A2's would work also.

What is the best kit for the best price out there? I have looked at model 1 and some others but I am just not sure about the quality.

Thanks for any help.  I guess I should ask about a good price on lowers also.  Thanks again.

Cheap kit - Delton and pay for the chrome lining.

I hear hit and miss about Model 1.  Del-ton seems to get a good review on here.  I have had good experience with DSA uppers and parts.  Bravo company is awesome, and not that much more for a good basic rifle.

For a good kit at good prices check out Del-Ton.

A Spikes complete upper can be had for about 500 bucks. Start adding in chrome lining and a chromed BCG the Delton starts losing ground on bargain status.

Delton kits are $465 + 45 for CL and many of their kits are only available with 1/9 rifling. I would sooner get a Spike's upper, Palmetto State Armory lower build kit. Aero Precision lowers are $75 at surplusammo.com.

$500 Spike's upper w/CH + BCG (1/7 CL, HPI, MP)
100 PSA lower build kit (LPK, stock, milspec tube, buffer, spring, plate, nut)
   75 Aero Precision lower

$675 plus transfer fee for lower receiver.

You are going to spend about $90 more to build with the Spike's upper because it will not come with the LPK, stock, etc.. Nothing wrong with Delton, but I'd prefer the Spikes because of the 1/7 barrel and the fact that it ends up $10 less than the 1/9 CL Del-ton unit.

this is solid advice.  You get a lot better quality for not much more in a Spikes.

Palmetto has come out with a complete upper that is at a great price as well.  $399 if I am not mistaken, but it shows out of stock.  you can get the whole enchalda from Palmetto and come out at $580 plus transfer fee and shipping.

Another +1 for Spikes.  In today's environment, there is no longer a need to sacrifice quality to save money.  You can get top quality gear (Spikes, BCM, PSA) for great prices, often cheaper than the low end guns.

I have no regrets going with Del-Ton for my Middy and my in the works SBR will be a Del-Ton
upper on a Deleware Machine lower. The only fault I see with Del-Ton right now is
that are so back loged trying to fill orders you are in for a wait to get one.

I really like the JT Distributing/Double Star kit I got. It beats the crap out of the manufacturer rejects I got from Model 1.
