I am going to get a Stag Model 2 soon, and I was wanting to buy a quad rail handguard for it, but I do not know the length of handguard that I need to buy.  Does anyone know, thanks in advance.

If memory serves, the stag model 2 uses a carbine length gas system, meaning by default you would want a carbine length handguard (7 in) if you want to use your front sight post, if your thinking about getting a low profile gas block, you could get any length handguard (free float of course), the 10in midlength, 12in rifle length, and some companies like troy make longer handguards, like their 13in "rifle" length.

Stag doesn't make midlengths, just carbine (7") for 16" barrels or rifle length (12") for 20" barrels.

I wasnt saying stag made midlength's, i was saying with the use of a low profile gas block, you can use basically any length handguard you want with the carbine length gas system.

Do you want a rail that is very easy to install, ie. no special tools needed, like a drop in?  If so, look at a 7" omega rail.

If you have the tools, you can install any lenght you want, but most longer rails would require that you change the barrel nut and use a low profile gas block that canfit under the rail.

Yeah I was just wanting a basic carbine length handguard that doesn't need any special tools to change out. I was looking at the UTG Pro Mil-Spec Forearm which is 6.7" long, and the Osprey 2-Piece Handguard Quad Rail.

Most here will tell you to avoid UTG products. I have no personal experience with them but everyone seems to hate them for some reason. However, if your going with drop in's i would suggest MOE hand guards. they are a great product. i originally wanted rails til i looked at quality rails prices, bought the MOE's and haven't looked back since. I'm getting a set for my rifle length as soon as i get paid. However you don't get that cool rail look that you might be after, but they grow on you

UTG's are very heavy and I don't think it is worth adding the bulk to the front of an AR.  If you actually need a quad rail it is because you are going to hang stuff on the front.  Better to go with something light as the AR is front heavy anyway.  You can get a YHM or MI without spending too much and they are significantly lighter than the UTG.  I have no experience with Osprey.

another question, I decided to go with the magpul MOE handguard, but I got to thinking will they fit on a stag model 2 since the mod 2 had a side mount for a sling or would that be in the way?

They will fit, that side sling mount goes off the front site base.

ETA: the little triangle towards the dangerous end (I don't know how familiar you are with the parts)

ok thanks, I have the gun, I just didn't want to buy the handguard if it would not fit, it looked like the front of the guard stuck out too much, and would hit the sling mount. Thanks again.
