| Looking to buy a 5.45 upper , who has good deals |

AIM had Spikes 5.45 uppers last I checked.......looked to be a great deal too since the key parts are coated in Melonite or Nickel Boron to protect them from the corrosive ammo.
Spikes Tactical 5.45x39 Upper, 16" midlength, complete corrosion Resistant Mid-Length 5.45x39 upper, Wolfe XP hammer spring, (1) CP magazine, and ST-T2 buffer. Lothar Walther barrel, Melonite finish inside and out with Nickel Boron M4 barrel extension. Melonite coated F-marked FSB, Melonite coated gas tube (stainless roll pin), and Melonite coated flash hider (indexed with stainless shims). Nickel Boron BCG. http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?item=XSTU4260MLS&name=Spikes+Tactical+5.45x39+Upper&groupid=301&search=spikes |

I have a Spikes 5.45 upper that I really like. I have only fired maybe 1300 rounds and mine functions perfectly.
The biggest problem with these uppers is finding reliable magazines to feed them. My 11 C-products mags function great- I am lucky. I have done slow fire and mag dumps with no malfunctions, so far. I feel blessed as my magazines work. Hopefully Tapco (and maybe Magpul) will step up and make reliable mags- I really do not like C-products mags, but mine work. Shooting these mimicks shooting 223, they shoot very similar. I gotta put a better scope on mine, my accuracy is just ok using Rusky surplus ammo. HTH |

There has been a ton of data, experience, and reviews posted on this topic over the past couple years, but here is little something to get you started: School me on 5.45 Spike's 5.45 Midlength Upper Why you want to shoot mil-surp 5.45 |
At the risk of being an annoying bastard, I'd rather have a good upper than a good deal. ![]() 87GN liked the Spike's 5.45 upper and wrote a decent review of it. It's on video, probably still on his site. I've had little trouble with a M1S rifle upper once I swapped hammer springs and smoothed it out through use, but I dare say it's not going to be a unit I hand down to the next generation. I've got another from some years ago that was a hand me down. I got that unit way before Spike's even thought about getting into the 5.45 market. I've got the Spike's unit on the top of my 'Order this from AIM and wait a few months for delivery' list, though. |
