| Mod 1 sales still as bad as everyone thinks? They have been around awhile now, surely they have gotten better. I ask because I got one of their 11.5 pistol kits and havn't tried to run it yet but it seems well built and fit on my mega lower was ok. |

In before the haters.
Built 3 rifles now from M1S parts, never had an issue. Yes, Fired them all. No issues. Is it the same tier as Colt or LMT parts? Of course not, but you don't pay that price either. For plinking, hunting, and general civilian type uses, I have no problem with M1S. I would use a Colt or LMT MPI bolt if using it for HD though. My main beef with them is they are now shopped about 1 hour from my house, but they won't do counter sales, so i have to pay tax AND shipping. |

Hope you didn't use a credit card Why what have you heard? Been a few years since I ordered from them, no problems CC wise. Quite a few threads on here have noted that they've had problems with credit card numbers being stolen and used for fraudulent charges |
|
I've got a Model 1 carbine with chrome lined barrel. The thing is fantastic, accurate, and has never had a failure of any kind. I'm not exactly sure what others are talking about. I don't see anything wrong with the bcg, either.
I've run a wide variety of ammo through it, too. I think they are gtg. I bought mine with a credit card, too, and haven't had an issue. They did give me a pretty nice discount because the credit card was so slow to run. (They basically threw in the bcg.) |
|
Most of the complaints were related to fraudelent CC issues and not the product. That being said, I just use a prepaid Visa that I get from my bank.
Get the amount of the product from Model 1, go to the bank, pay the amount for the card, then order online or on the phone. No potential fraud charges and NO bill at the end of the month. |
| I bought a carbine length kit from them about 18 months ago. Haven't run a ton of ammo thru it yet but I'd say about 1k rounds and only 2 failure to feeds. Both times it was a simple matter to eject and let it load another round. IMHO, model 1 is good to go for the price. |

Hope you didn't use a credit card Yes, I use my credit card all the time. If I were to get a fraudulent charge on it, I would just dispute it. Its no biggie. I have never had a CC issue with model 1. Hopefully Model 1s issues have been corrected. They do have good prices for their guns. Just didn't want you to find out about the CC problem. You usually don't get stuck with the charges but its still a hassle to get them cleared anyway. No use in pissing against the tide if youv'e been warned. |

I don't see anything wrong with the bcg, either. Ever seen one like this.http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b317/demusn79/IM000785.jpg Yeah I prefer MPI'd bolts. For the minor price difference it's worth replacing the bolt. Same is tru of Oly, DPMS, etc etc that are not MPI'd. MPI is not a guarantee of no failure, but at least it has been subjected to a minimum standard. I like Colt bolts because they are also shot-peened. (others may be as well but not aware) |

Really now? I use AMEX most of the time for online order. Never a problem. If I don't like something, I send it back let their attack dogs deal with it. |

The last bolt I saw snapped like that was a Bushmaster.
I've built quite a few of their kits over the years for myself and for friends, and all of them have turned out great. Biggest issue was the charging handles could have been smoother, but you can fix that with ceramic sharpening sticks and maybe a little flitz. I generally use that on some friction points anyway, so its no big deal in my book. Most of the ones I have built from them routinely shoot sub MOA, though admittedly I have.t built many in the M4 carbine configuration. Saleen |

why take chances? You have Spike's doing full uppers with BCG's for $500 flat, and BCM for a little more than that. Both have "what? me worry?" reputations. If you need to save some scratch, or just like to make deals happen like me, hit up the EE. If you are smart and can spare a few minutes every 4 or 5 hours per day to check the forums, you can walk away with a complete Colt or FN upper half for what you would pay M1S for some questionable hardware.

The gas block was badly canted. The lower parts kit was crap. Their bolts have a bad reputation for breaking. I've heard relatively good things about their uppers, but the lowers not so much. The problems w/ my kit were the lower and absolutely no attention to detail when they assembled the upper. |

I custom ordered my kit, the gas block is a yankee hill flip site. |

Mine has had plenty through it with no issues. I guess I should have said I don't see anything wrong with my Model 1 bcg. |

I compared mine side by side with my JT / Double Star, the difference is very noticeable. The Mod 1 bolt is smaller, probably undersized. The JT is larger and had nice square corners and a smoother face. It also fit snugly in battery and required some break in time to loosen up. The model 1 bolt started loose and got sloppy quick. This makes me wonder how undersized it initially was and what sort of metal its made from. I have no faith in this bolt. The gas key wasn't staked worth a shit either. |

Mine is marked MPC which is a Colt marking if I understand correctly. |

I've got one exactly like that from a "BUSHMASTER" after only 70-80 rounds through it! You can plainly see the variation in grain structure from the outer surface inwards. I'm figuring a Friday afternoon, last batch in the heat treating oven, beer whistle sounds................who knows? Point is, a phone call fixed it, and no problem since. If ya don't want to pay shipping, catch them at the Dallas and other area shows. |
