Does anyone know of a manufacturer who makes a 20" stainless steel 1:8" barrel with a mid length gas tube ?
Thanks |
| Probably not worth the added expense for a one off rifle. Rifle length system works best with rifle length barrel. Anything can be made for a price but I don't personally see any advantages. Might reduce recoil with enlarged gas port and heavier buffer but will give up some in sight picture and velocity. When you say target barrel I'm going to assume it will be a low profile gas block scoped model. With a stainless barrel in the diameter of choice it might not be a big deal to have made. Just a matter of drilling the right sized hole in the right place and mounting the block. Few different ways to go about it. Call J&T or ADCO and ask how much extra it will cost. Definately not an off the shelf piece. |

Thanks for the input. I had a look at the Rainier site and the only barrel I saw with that spec was a Sabre medium contour. I'd like to stay with a heavy barrel if I can, and my budget is going to keep me away from custom built. As was mentioned in one reply, this will be a scope only rifle with a low profile gas block. I just built an A-2 with a DPMS 20" heavy barrel and I'm looking into a flat top /scoped rifle project next. I'd like to keep the same barrel length if possible. But it comes down to aesthetics. I want to use a Hogue free float tube, but I don't like the look of the rifle length model. Which brings us back to my original question. My other option is to use a 18" barrel. If I decide to do that, I'll probably go with the DPMS Mini SASS.
I've been looking at a couple of scopes. Both SWFA SS models. The 10X and 16X. Any suggestions? They come highly recommended for the price. The rifle will be mainly be used for 600yd. competition. |

I've had no experience with the 16X flavor but i do have a 10X rear focus model on a Remington 700 LTR. Great scope for the money. As a matter of fact iv'e been meaning to post it up for sale but i really like the thing and it's build like a tank (rated for .50BMG). Tell you the truth, mine is not for sale but if after you finish your research your pick is the 10X rear, shoot me an IM, maybe we can deal ;) Good luck with the project!! J |
