Took my first AR to the range today. (Stag 14.6 upper/RRA Lower/Stag LPK,MI rear sight) 40 rounds of american eagle black box 5.56 and 20 rounds of .223 wolf.

Fired one shot cleaned barrel. Fired shots 2 and 3 and cleaned barrel. Shot rounds 4,5,6,7,8,9 cleaned barrel. Did not clean after that.

Got 1.5 inch group at 50 yards off bench(5 shot group).

Some issues I need help with:

1) Slide did not stay open 100% of the time after mag was empty.
2) On the side of the fired casing there was an indent on every case.
3) I had to shoot 6-7 inches high in order to hit my impact spot.

1. Check your mags and the bolt catch. The bolt catch should move freely and lock back on an empty mag
2. ??????
3. You'll want to first check that your elevation is set for the right range. Then once your elevation is set properly, you may need to adjust your front sight, it will need to come up (counter clockwise) to adjust your POI. Do this at the range when you can see the effect immediately. There is a post in the Library about sight adjustment.

Since its a new rifle did you clean everything before shooting it? Some companies use a thick packing grease that is great for shipping but horrible for operation.

Yes my rear sight is not adjustable for vertical so i'm assuming I have to move my front sight DOWN. How many clicks?

If I understand you correctly, your point of impact is low. If that is the case, you need to turn the sight
clockwise. Do it in increments, maybe 5 or 6 clicks to start. There should be, next to the sight post, an
arrow and the word "up". Turning in that direction will RAISE the point of impact. The sight post itself
will be going down into the base, as you said.

The dent in the case is likely from the brass deflector. If so, it is normal and harmless.

Is your FSB "F" marked?

Those dents are probably from where they are hitting the shell deflector.

I agree.  Those look pretty normal to me.
