I am looking for an AR-15. I have bought and traded over the years. But, as I am knocking on the "old guy" door, I am looking to buy quality and actually keep them.. Basically, I'm looking at a Colt 6920, a LMT CQB/MRP, an LWRC M6A1, or a Noveske 16" Light Basic. All stories of personal accounts with any of these brands welcome. I know this is a personal decision. But I'm having a hard time with it. Any help?? Thanks..........

It sounds like you appreciate nice things. The Colt is a very nice rifle for a "rack grade" carbine. But the Noveske is borderline custom grade stuff for not a whole lot more money. The Colt is an icon in the AR-15 world, so is KAC (Knights Armament) , and that prancing pony on the side means a lot to a lot of people.
I'd grab the Colt for a do anything rifle, but the Noveske will probably be a bit more accurate. My personal fave is not on your list, but if i were building a super slick rifle, i would look hard at Larue as well. The only drawback is you would have to build the lower yourself ––- but stuff the lower with a nice Geiselle or JP Enterprises trigger and you will have accuracy that rivals a nice hunting rifle with the right ammo ( |

Thanks for the reply's. Exactly what I was hoping for. I know, in the end it's a personal decision. But that is the beauty of these forums. Everyone is willing to share "thier" personal choice and stand by it. M4Texan, That would be a good idea as well. Did you buy both the LWRC and Colt as separate whole rifles and then switch upper and lower? I am also thinking of going with the FDE furniture. Don't know.
You'all had good points. And I can only hope I can buy them all in years to come. Hmmmm. Also, streetstar you mentioned Larue. Funny, but I called one of my LEO buddies last night and he told me his Dept. was going to assist in a Larue build for his patrol rifle. He also recommended Daniel Defense. Good stuff as well. Man, I need a bigger bank account!! A few of you mentioned a build. And that would be a great way to get the best of everything. Two builds most likely. Thanks to all.... Paul |

I know this is a personal decision. But I'm having a hard time with it. Any help?? Thanks.......... Paul All of the rifles you mentioned are top quality. If you don't want to sacrifice quality but would like to also save some money, take a look at Daniel Defense, BCM, or Spikes Tactical. Word of advice however: free-float rails are awesome. If you buy a rifle with standard handguards (non-free float), it costs major $ to upgrade later to a free-float rail system, and also will require a little bit of gunsmithing, depending on the rail you end up with. I prefer to buy rifles with the rail already installed, as it saves time and money. Out of the 4 rifles you mentioned, only the LMT and the LWRC (which is waaaay overpriced IMO) have rail systems. So out of the 4 you mentioned, I'd probably go with the LMT. The quality between all the rifles you mentioned is pretty much the same. Spikes, Daniel Defense, and BCM also offer similar quality rifles with railed uppers for less money. You also need to consider whether or not you want a mid-length gas system or carbine-length gas system. But really, if you go with Colt, LMT, LWRC, Noveske, Spikes, DD, or BCM, you'll end up with a quality rifle. The beauty of all that variety is that YOU get to pick what features you want the most, and chances are good that at least one of those companies will offer a rifle with said features. My only personal experience is with Spikes, and it has been everything I'd expect from a quality AR and more. But I'd be more than happy with a rifle from any of the brands mentioned (but I STILL think LWRC is overpriced )
EDIT: I forgot to mention Larue...they also make top quality stuff. So like I said, make a list of all the features you want, look through what all the above companies offer, find the rifle that meets your criteria, and find the best price for it (since multiple compaines might make a rifle that meets your criteria). |

Paul Hi Paul, Easy answer....which one did you list first...that is your subconscious telling you what you really want. Just get the Colt, you know you want to. AND, if you don't you will eventually wish you did, and everytime you go to the range and see a Colt..it will haunt you. You say you are knocking on the "old guy door"., so I assume you are 29...just kidding.. I assume you were around when Colt's were the only (real) choice and seeing or owning one then has been with you since that time. This is even more of a reason to get the Colt, at the end of the day, or decades from now, it is just a fact it will not be a bad decision, buying the others on the other hand may or may not be. OTOH, I too owned and enjoyed the Colts back in those days...but all of my AR/M4 type weapons are now DD, so what the heck do I know...Ha, Ha, Best of luck with your decision and seriously of the ones you listed, I have a feeling there is only 1 you will be satisfied with throughout your "Golden Years" :-).
