I debated and debated for about 6 months. Glad to hear that even with a big hunk of metal on top I'm still good to go. My goal starting out was to make a soft shooting lightweight rifle. Maybe one day I'll throw some flip ups on and weigh it again with no scope. Id dump that polymer lower though. Back in school so the polymer lower stays. Its been good so far. I may swap out for a Magtech later on. But I'm 5 semesters away from being a Chem E and I have a 2 month old. Wife would use it against me. |

Just threw this 16" carbine together yesterday, from mostly spare parts I had laying around. Otherwise, everything else was sale stuff from the holidays.
Nothing special.. New Remington 'Black Fri sale' upper. PSA -BCG, LPK, and folding rear BUIS. Anderson lower. 3.5lb enhanced spring kit. Model 1 LW 16" barrel. PA RDS using KZ (exact co-witness) QR mount. 5.11 light/Viking Tactics mount. And obviously a buncha Magpul stuff. As shown complete w sling and empty 30rd p-mag, 7lb 3oz.

Great builds everyone!!! I have enjoyed everyone's pictures and they gave me great ideas and motivation. I just finished this build a week ago. I probably went in reverse order. My first build was a 6.8 for deer hunting and then I wanted a lightweight "do all" rifle. I built this with easily accessible parts for around $600. Anderson lightweight upper and lower St. Croix Tactical BCG Palmetto stock, tube, spring, and buffer Palmetto LPK with ALG fire controls and Yellow Springs Faxon 16" pencil barrel YHM thread protector Daniel Defense gas Block Home made carbon fiber handguard Weight without Mag. 5lbs. 2.72oz. It is fun to think about how light you could actually go with all the lightweight parts out there, but the weight savings to cost ratio gets WAY out of control!!! |

I don't like the feel of the Fiberlite stock. Just like I didn't use the MOE K grip many are using. I'm going to switch back to an un-modified MOE grip because I want to be able to keep my SLR adj GB allen wrench in the handle. |

ETA: how come my pic won't embed? ETA2: looks like I'm over 50 posts so now it will, lol. That's got a midwest industries handguard, a pencil 416r stainless barrel (very accurate), a trijicon accupoint 3-9 with rings, and the whole thing is under 7 lbs. That's lightweight in my book. |

AR15 Weight Barrel:1.5 LBS Rail/Barrel Nut:10.4 Oz Gas Block 1.4 Oz Upper 9 Oz CH 1.2 Oz BCG 11.6 Oz Upper Weight:57.6 oz= 3.6 LBS Lower Weight-12 oz Stock- 6 oz Buffer Tube- 4.2 oz. Buffer/Spring 7 oz End Plate/Pins/Hammer/Selector 4.75 Lower Weight 33.95 oz= 2.2 lbs Total Weight 5.8LBS unloaded. It's under 6LBs unloaded. Not sure if that counts. 
Just a mock up, I need to get the gas block pinned still. |

I finally decided to build a lightweight SBR in 300blk with the specific goal of being under six lbs suppressed and scoped with sling and under 5 scoped. I finally got there. I took the buffer and spring out and placed them on the scale so you could see they are included (however, I do prefer to run a JP Captured spring but that puts me over the target weights). 
Here it is under 5 lbs (4lbs 15.9oz) 
And this is 5lbs 14.6 oz with suppressor and sling. 
The rifle turned out better than I expected. It shoots great. Fat-Mcnasty 219 gr at 1070fps suppressed 100 yds. from sandbag rest.
