My son and I were out looking for stripped lower today for a new build. One shop had a complete LMT lower for about  $500 bucks. It seemed like a nice piece, with a sopmod stock and sweet 2 stage trigger. I have only experienced USGI triggers and couldn't get over how nice the LMT trigger was. Opinions?  Thanks.

LMT is a top tier producer.  I built a Mk18 Mod0 clone on an LMT Defender 2000 lower and love it.  Two stage trigger is an excellent upgrade and the SOPMOD is the best CAR stock IMHO.

Get it - you'll have a great rifle.

I tried out an LMT lower myself, and was VERY impressed with the trigger. Can't remember the price, but it was less than $400.00 (Edit: no SOPMOD).
LMT is good stuff (I have one of their 14.5" uppers).

I think that comparatively speaking that is a decent price for one of those $500 out the door.

But... if you built one...

64.95 + free shipping +$25 transfer fee palmetto state armory lower - 89.95
SOPMOD/VLTOR stock used on the EE- $150/$75ish
Milspec RE kit Palmetto (cheaper if you buy used on EE) - $40 or less (keep in mind the Palmetto's are 6061 steel.. if that matters to you)

that leaves you $220 or more to choose one of Palmettos LPK's with a geissele trigger.. which is coincidentally just about the cost of one of them.

And once again, if you waited and watched the EE for good deals on used stuff.. you could conceivably do a bit better.

food for thought.

Here's another way of looking at it:  in addition to being one of the top OEM AR makers, you get a $200 SOPMOD stock and a pretty nice $120 or so trigger with that lower = good deal in my book.

I probably would have bought it, but my son wasn't crazy about  the stock or rubberized pistol grip. I was like, but this is the sopmod! We will go back next weekend with an upper and mags, just to make sure all fits well, and make a purchase. Thanks for the replies.

I have a Defender 200 with the 2 stage trigger and it is waiting on a little bitty tax stamp to come back so it can get some new initials on the side.  I think that LMT is an excellent choice.   Go get that thing and don't look back.  You will be very happy.

all I buy are LMT products if they're an option. my SBR lower is a bushy... full of LMT parts, topped with an LMT upper.

So grab a different grip and swap it in.  That's what I did - switched out that ergo grip with a Magpul MOE.  All you need is a flat-head screwdriver with and extension or enough reach to get to the screw up there.

There are a number of advantages of the SOPMOD.  First, in my mind, is the excellent cheekweld.  It's comfortable, natural and far supperior to other CAR stocks.
There are also two water tight storage comparments where i store batteries and my NFA Paperwork.  I'll try to snap a couple pics of my MK18 Mod0 - ask him what he things.

Yea for the price it is a nice setup. Plus a nice ergo grip.

A grip is simple to replace. I personally like the ergo grip after using multiple types it has been my favorite. If he doesn't like the sopmod but you do get it and pull it off. Buy him something else and keep the sopmod stock for yourself.

Wanted the best so I bought an LMT lower, single stage trigger.
The trigger absolutely s*cks. For me LMT not worth the $.

I spent about 500 on a LMT complete lower with a 2 stage trigger, ergo, and sopmod. Don't have a single regret.

I agree 100%.
I started buying the LMT Defender SOPMOD'd lowers with the standard trigger and ambi safety just for that reason....its a bargin and I can't build it for the cost. Not to mention I like the LMT standard trigger and thats the only way I can get one.

Every LMT lower I've seen has had a good single stage trigger on it. I'd say your experience is the exception, not the standard.

1 of the best complete lowers you can get next to a KAC

The trigger is fine I have over 3000rds fired without any problems

500 bucks is cheap for that lower

Yeah - drop in a 2 stage National Match trigger.  You'll be g2g.

I believe the LMT SOPMOD w/2-stage trigger is the best complete lower value available.  It's not piecemeal, all the individual parts are top quality, and it's assembled "factory tight" by one of the most respected manufacturers.

Only the KAC complete lower is better.

I have no problem with my LMT with the single stage trigger. It does require some shooting for it to feel better.
