I bought a barrel from someone here on the EE, it was advertised as follows:

I have a New in Wrapper DANIEL DEFENSE M4 STRIPPED BARREL for sale. This is a stripped, M4-profile 16" premium-grade rifle barrel, machined from ordnance-grade 4150 chromium-molybdenum alloy steel and magnetic particle inspected (MPI). It's chambered for 5.56mm NATO, with 1-7" right-hand twist cut rifling in the chrome-lined bore, with M4 feed ramp and locator pin. Gas port is drilled and muzzle is pre-threaded to accept ½"-28 tpi accessories. This barrel is NOT drilled for AR-15 Front Site Pins. SPECIFICATIONS: 4150 chrome-moly carbon steel alloy, manganese phosphate finish, matte black. 16½" long, .640" O.D. under handguard, .750" O.D. at gas port, .700" O.D. at muzzle. Chambered for 5.56mm NATO. 1-7" twist.
Price Shipped is $185, these cost over $275 from Daniel Defense.

I got the barrel, and it says " 1x7 .556 NATO" on it, and that's it. Does anyone know if they mark them as such, or what I may have for sure? It doesn't look like the markings on the DD website unless it's a Button Swage Barrel from what I see:

DD barrel ID

Just wanting to verify what I have after looking it over. I also emailed DD with the info.

Thanks all.

Any help appreciated.

EDIT: Here's a pic of the only markings on it. ( I know it's got a scratch. I wasn't real happay about that either ... )

Ahhh.... a man who knows his DD barrels. Thank you very much.

EDIT: So this isn't a cold forged barrel then? Would more pics of anything help you ID it ?

Just got this back from Joe at DD :

Steve,

That is one of our Button Swaged 1:7 Twist 16" Barrels.  It has an M4 Profile, chrome lined chamber and bore, and the exterior is heavy phosphate coated.  Definitely one of our barrels.  Just not one of our Hammer Forged Barrels.

So, what would YOU do?

What would we do about what? It looks like everything is in order here. He never said it was a cold hammer forged barrel. If you assumed it was, that is not his fault. I don't see anywhere in the ad that says it is.

You got what you paid for. Build it and shoot it!

Your right, it doesn't. The ad was edited and there was a link to this barrel from what I remember. I was looking the ad over when trying to decide.

DD barrel

I think I'll take your advice and just build the fucking thing.

Oh... If he linked a CHF barrel... Then you'd be in the right to ask for a refund if that's what you want.

Apologies since the ad was edited.

I'd still build it but if you have your heart set on a hammer forged barrel, I'd send it back to him.

I guess it really doesn't matter to me. I was just expecting something else, and it's not as much of a bargain as I originally thought.

^^^That would be it.

Yeah... It does look like a little deception was going on. The price stated is clearly for the CHF barrel and not the button rifled one. The button rifled one only normally goes for about $20 more than you paid.

After thinking about it, I might actually say return it for principle's sake. He falsely advertised the barrel.

Still, the seller misrepresented the product. I would ask for a partial refund and threaten negative feedback.

I had one of the non CHF barrels.  Only reason I sold it is because i upgraded to a stainless lothar walther barrel.  The DD barrel was very accurate and was of good quality.

I'm sure they are, that's why I got this one. It just wasn't as described IMO. I've emailed the seller. I'll see where this goes.

Did the original ad state hammer forged? The quote you have at the top states cut rifleing.

OK the price from Bravo is probably a "Get it out the door price"... and if you notice they don't have them in stock and I am sure DD will just make the Hammer forged from now on.  185 isn't a bad price could be a little better.   Build it shoot it and don't look back.

Could you sell it now and get a return on it probably not.... build it shoot it until the rifling is gone..... bet it will seem like a good investment then

I want to say yes, because I was looking at the CHF on DD's website, but the ad was edited right after I bought it, and the link isn't there. That said, I am not 100% positive what was there, BUT , I know for a fact that barrel is the one that was 275.00 on the website like the ad stated. The one I got is 205.00 . Either way, the ad was misleading and I've emailed the seller but have not heard back. I'll try to resolve this in a manner that we are both comfortable with.
