DD XV upper or the CMMG 14.5 with the fixed FH. (Does it really matter that I'm not going with a midlength?)

I will be putting a DD 7" Omega rail on either and I would save around $200 if I went with the CMMG. I just want this to be a good build because it will be the last for a looong time.
(CMMG stripped lower, vltor emod kit, DD lower parts kit, and either red dot or 1.5x4 scope.) Thanks

I would go with the Daniel Defense out of the two.

DD makes top shelf (I did NOT say tier) kit; I am happy with all of my DD parts.  No experience with CMMG.

Middy?  Been beaten to death/don't start.

I have both carbine and mid and prefer the carbine = get what you prefer.

DD man.  They do their own barrels in-house.  That is a good thing

DD makes great stuff I have one of their 16" M4 profiles, I also have a CMMG socom..they dont make those anymore..14.7 chromelined and even though I swapped it out for a real Colt Socom it ran fine.Out of all my barrels the CMMG shot ordinarily high to the point that I had to get a .040 higher post to bring down POA to be on paper at 50yds and the original post was adjusted so high it wobbled.

It did zero but out of my DD 16" M4,Sabre defence 16" M4 profile,Colt 6920 M4 barrel,Colt Socom/phantom 1/7,Noveske N4,Bushmaster 14.5/phantom 1/7 it was the only one that shot like that plus the Socom profile of the CMMG was a bit thinner than the Colt or even the Bushmaster for thickness past the FSB and the M4 notch angle seems to be a bit off when compared to all others wich look the same.

It shot reliably but seemed to be way off compared to other barrels that it should have been equal to for the price.....$350 at the time.Would I get one again no as you can see from my list the CMMG was the first barrel I spent a premium on and I already had the Bushmaster barrel...so at least I learned and went better quality.Buy once buy the DD upper you wont regret it and you will have piece of mind from the start.

Thanks for the info. I have heard great things about both and it seems like the DD is regarded as the better of the two for sure. I was just wondering how much and if it was worth it. That question is pretty much answered. I think I was hoping to hear everyone say they are both great so I could spend $200 more on optics. ha. Barrel is pretty important though. DD is looking like the way to go.

DD is great stuff. Not to throw a wrench into the works but I was a big fan of the CMMG WASP  shot for about a year. I sold it off to get almost a complete gun. Never an issue with it. Like someone said, you'll never know the difference.
