I finally got the Barrel Nut off. I went ahead and ordered a vice block to hold the upper in place, and that did the trick.
Now I can't seem to get the barrel to slide out. Course, in all the videos and posts I have seen, they "slide right out." Is there anything funky about the 20 inch, comp. barrel ?? It's not welded in is it ? :D |

Try coming in from the rear of the upper receiver with a wooden dowel and then tapping the barrel out. If the fit is that tight it might be a good idea to use some anti-seize compound when you re-install the barrel. I had to do this as well with a BCM barrel in a LaRue upper. No big deal. |

Hmmm. I have now broken a dowel trying to pound this barrel out.
Dang thing will not budge ! I'm scared to use anything harder than wood. Is it time to take it to an armorer? If the armorer screws something up, will they take responsibility? I can't imagine what they have used, maybe a quart of Loc-Tite? |

Get some Kroil and let it soak in between the barrel and upper receiver. Do it several times over a 24 hr period. Then, try to remove the barrel. Use Kroil and, as the other posters mentioned, a large diameter dowel. Be sure that the upper receiver is solidly held in the vise. Keep us posted on your progress. I hate it when stuff like this happens. Perhaps there is a piece of FOD jammed in with the barrel. |

Must be gummed up pretty good. Did the gas tube come right out? Be careful and don't put it in the floor when you start pounding on it. Kroil is good stuff. Every single piece was a complete pain to get off. Sight pins, Gas tube, Barrel Nut... It looks so easy in the vids

| Heat it up with a hair drier. Apply heat around the threads area of the receiver. I would not use a torch of any kind on this. Its just too hot and may change the temper of the metal. Use a big dowel as stated above and give it a good solid whack...or a few...whatever it takes...it will come out. |

The front sight came off easy enough. The gas tube was a major PITA. I ended up using the dremel and cutting it off. Got lucky and didn't even mar the bbl. Using the action block, I had no problem w/ the bbl nut. Like you, I had some trouble working the bbl loose from the receiver. I used Kroil and it worked as advertised. Good luck. |
