I just installed a milspec magpul ctr stock on my larue lower and I noticed that the spring in the stock is sliding up and down the ext tube. I guess the spring is too short? I bought the hole kit from an online store. I bought another kit from them also and there is no sound in that stock.  I've handled other AR's and I noticed a slight sound when moving the stock up and down from my shoulder, but nothing like this. This is not from shooting the gun, since I don't have an upper yet. My question is should I get another spring or is this normal with some buffer springs.

Did you physically pull the spring out to look at it?  It should visibly be clearly longer than the extension tube.  Is the rattle you are hearing maybe the buffer weights rattling?

This was my guess also.

The buffer has 3 weights inside of it that "clank" around when moved or when the gun cycles. This is to provide a "dead blow" effect so that the buffer hits the bolt carrier and then the weights hit it a second time and ensure it is seated.
