Hey guys, it's been about a year since I've taken my AR-15 out to shoot. Long story short, I've been hooked on my handguns and spent lots of time making love to them at the gun range.
At any rate, I have a tactical scope and flipup/back up iron sites I'll be siting in this weekend. I've always had this thought and question in the back of my head and decide to ask the forum with people who know best.....

Once I site in my AR-15 at the range, when I take it home, disassemble it into 2 pieces and clean it, will that throw the point of aim off on the rifle at all between 0-200 yards? This might sound like a stupid question, I'm sorry if it is. Just curious.... Thanks in advance for your patience.

Without removing the scope from the upper, I don't think you will get any change in zero. The scope is held in relation to the barrel and has not moved by removing the upper from the lower receiver.

Perfect, thanks! I was thinking that as a possibility. Just wanted peace of mind from hearing it from members here.

Separating an upper from a lower will not harm your zero as the sights and/or optic are attached to the upper.

If you remove your sights or optic, yes, you might lose your zero.  Some scope mounts, such as those from LaRue Tactical, are designed to allow for repeatable zero if you remove the mount and then reattach it.
