I need advice on building an AR generally for ranch defense mainly.
I need 3 builds you would make for 900 dollars(Each build being 900 or less). Show me what you come up with! |

Quoted:
Two Spike's ST-15 Midlength LE carbines and a bolt gun. +1 Spike's 5.56 MidLE for $800 + rear BUIS = $900 Spike's 5.45 MidLE upper for $650 Spike's Complete lower = $250 BUIS = $100 Remington 700 .270 or .243 or .308 for $650 Good glass = $200 Leupold scope rings/mount = $50 |

Stripped lower - 70 +25 transfer - 95
Palmetto MOE build kit - 129 fail zero stripped upper w/charging handle - 150 Fail Zero BCG - 250 Upper parts - 50 bucks - including standard plastic heat shields off of the EE Thats 674... add the balance of the hundred for shipping - leaving you with 200 bucks to find a barrel. 1 14.5 Middy 1 18" 1 20-24" heavy barrel. honestly you could probably cut out the 3rd rifle... get a mossberg 500 instead and use the money you save to flesh out the 14.5 and the 18" Of course you could go cheaper on the BCG or stripped upper... but you asked what i would build. those would be bare ass rifles though... would still need sights. MBUS rears. And an optic for the 20" - on a budget... primary arms 4-16x You could probably get a price break on the uppers-BCGs-Barrels-and lowers if you bought all at once though... "hey i need 3 of these... can you do any better on the price?" that price break you would get might cover the optics and sights. |

Well I'm willing to spen a little more..if needed but I found this Spikes lower 250 LMT upper for 485 Young Mfg Chrome BCG -175 probably could find the lower and upper for a little cheaper somewhere. where did you find that LMT upper at? Specs? Its not Rarguns is it? Either get a standard BCG or a Nickel Boron (NiB-Fail Zero) one... the advantages of chrome BCGs (ease of cleaning) do not outweigh the cheaper cost of a standard phosphate one. But on the other hand i believe (my opinion) that the benefits of a NiB coated one (less malfunctions,no lube/light lube/ease of cleaning/added hardness/ready to go at all times) do justify the higher cost. |

You can get a BCM upper for less. And a BCM BCG for less. And I would take both over LMT and Young. |

Let's see. This was your original post leading people to believe that you were looking for info that you may not know:

I wont change the BCG... even though they are a new company..i know the people. Seen them in action. So here is my question - are you looking for advice or looking for justification of things you already knew you wanted? Because it seems that more and more people post questions not looking for answers but rather looking for a pat on the back and justification. |

Three pretty similar guns. When you get the money I'd put some kind of magnified optic on at least one. http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=118&t=498251 |

Quoted: Just looking for info, so I don't end up like the avg idiot in a gun shop. Looking for something that isnt likely to fail either. and im still going with 3 builds..just rather get it right then wrong. How big is the ranch? two standard BCM or Spike's 16" carbines. MOE handguards. Aimpoint ML2 or micros in LT mounts as funds permit. Standard carry-handle or DD A1.5 BUIS for now. one 16" BCM or Spike's middy with stainless barrel. Free float rail (DD Omega or Vltor tube). 4x optic on a good mount. Harris tripod. Surefire scout or G2L in a DD offset mount when funds allow for all three. This will give you two outstanding fighting carbines with enough practical accuracy and reliability to handle almost any encounter. The third rifle differing only in it's stainless barrel with the glass is to reach out a little bit further and help you see and ID partially concealed targets. The stainless gun is still short enough to give you the handling of the standard carbines with only a small weight penalty. Of course the accessories will add another 50% onto your project, but there is no shame in just getting the basic guns for now. This should get you in your budget for just the guns. |
