I have a Ciener 22lr kit that have used in my Stag Arms Model 3 for thousands of rounds and I love it. It is great for plinking or practice and I would recommend it to any of my friends.
Last year I built an AR with a 24" Bull Barrel DPMS Upper with a 1 in 8" twist. It has a pretty decent 10 power scope on it. It gets used mostly for deer and small critters. The accuracy is amazing. Here is the question... Would there be any problem with using the Ciener kit in this upper? I am mostly worried about doing something that would diminish the accuracy of this gun (not so much of an issue with my other AR). It has been broken in properly and has had about 75 rounds of .223 shot through it so far. If anyone is wondering why I would want to do this... squirrels. They are always on my deer feeder which is about 70 yds away. I have shot some with 223, but I don't want to have a massive squirrel slaying with that kind of noise. My idea is to pack my Ciener kit with me and if the squirrels are running off deer, or if the deer never show up, drop the conversion in, adjust the scope accordingly (if even needed) and begin with the cute furry blood bath. Good idea or not? |
| A friend has used his conversion kit in his 1-8 twist Wylde barrel RRA a lot with no issue. His barrel will surprise you with the accuracy of the rimfire ammo. His likes Aguila 40 grain plated HV Ammo. I personally feel the plated ammo leaves less lead in the barrel than straight lead bullets. We normally run a bore snake down the barrel after shooting rimfire ammo. Shoot centerfire ammo and it will clean out the gas tube. |

Athough in theory the rifleing is all the wrong twist I have found my ceiner is the most accurate in my RRNM 1/8 stainless.
It should work better in my 1/9 or 1/12 barrels (but it doesn't) I shoot soft lead match ammo but it cleans right up with a couple of passes of a dry bore brush or bore snake. As with any rim fire you really need to shoot groups with different brands and types of ammo , accuracy will vary a good bit in most guns. Standard velocity ammo (CCI STANDARD,WOLF MATCH TARGET) will likely work way better than hi velocity . I would use the best accuracy load even though it doesn't have the power If you can bean the little vermin in the head it doesn't much matter |
| Thanks for all the advice. My only serious concern was if using the kit could be permanently detrimental to the rifle's accuracy when using centerfire .223 ammo. It seems like nobody else has had an issue with this. Later on this week I will give it a try and give an update on the results. |
