First time ever shooting an AR, been around rifles for a long while just never owned or shot an AR.  After a 50 yard zero and taking just under 30 rounds to do that here's how I did.  Basic iron sights, I should have my aimpoint later this week, I'll throw up another report after the weekend.  Now to go practice a lot more.

Stag A2, mostly stock, with Tula/wolf ammo, first 30rd mag after the zero.  I'm either holding a bit low or it could use a click or two up.

If you have shot a 50 yd zero, you cannot expect the trajectory to violate the laws of physics and also hit the center at 25 yds. Let's assume a straight trajectory for this because the curve is very flat at 25 yds. Zero at 50, then shoot at 25. The sightline with the standard sights is about 2.5" above the bore, so at 25 yds the trajectory would have risen to half the offset from the sightline, or 1.25". so your 25 yd target is about right. You have a lot of dispersion for 25 yds, but then you're shooting from an unrested position. For the purpose of adjusting the sights (targeting the rifle), always fire from at least a sandbag position. Use the small aperture and take your time.

I'd say he has a good zero. He is shooting from position not bench resting. He can refine his zero as he gets better.

Thanx, Russ

I think that looks pretty good for off the knee.

I would leave it where it is and see how you are doing with the Aimpoint and try and get some shots at greater distances.

I would leave where it is until you can try some longer distance.  Someone correct me but  I think if you
sight your AR at 25yds it will also shoot dead on at 200yds.  This is because of the trajectory curve crossing
as was stated by 1saxman.

Good grief, the guy did great for his first outing from the kneeling position. Let's encourage him, not be obnoxious.

Nice job buy.

I just got my Aimpoint CompM4 and am really looking forward to putting it through its paces.

haha, thanks.  I wanted some advice as it's my first zero but I wouldn't expect any less than what I got.  Hey I asked for it right , didn't have any bags and did the best I could with what I had.  I'll be out at a friends property where I can back it out to 100+ yards to see how it works and I'll make sure to bring some sand bags and try out the aimpoint as well.

Oh, that's right. Yes, I forget we are in the company of e-light fighting machines.
