| Is this or a similar flash hider worth the money? |
|
It's a flash suppressing compensator. The keyword there being compensator. If you want a pure flash hider, the Smith Vortex basically makes the flash signature disappear even nearby at night. If you want a compensator to stay on target easier and to keep the rifle more level as you shoot but also suppress the flash a decent amount (about as good as an A2 or slightly worse) then go with the FSC556, Battlecomp, or Rainer Arms compensator. If you want a pure compensator, there are better options but they will have very noticeable flash. Every muzzle device is a compromise. You either get amazing flash suppression with almost no compensation, a mix of somewhere in between on both, or amazing compensation with virtually no flash suppression. |

Rifle is to be used as a do it all including the occasional 3-gun match Then the FSC556 is your answer, incredible muzzle control once its on, only downside is that its noisy but if you have hearing protection on its one of the best muzzle devices out there period. |

Plus the added flash suppression does not hurt either. Now it is noisy but not to the shooter, people standing around you will get an earful and it the concussion under roofed lines of fire is quite a number. I've had people come up to me and asked me if my AR was some other cal. than 5.56 just because of the concussion. All in all, is a nice upgrade is 3-guns are in your plans.
Good luck!!! J |

Shooting my FSC556 indoors feels like I'm getting heart palpitations....
Don't get me wrong. Shooting an identical rifle side by side (14.5" midlengths) one with the FSC and one with an A2X, the FSC556 reduces almost 100% of recoil. But it is also about 100% louder... |

The FSC556 is primarily a compensator. It just so happens to suppress a fair amount of flash too without meeting the BATFE's qualification as a flash suppressing device (the A2 I believe is the standard it was measured against). I use these on all of my post ban rifle here in NY (we still have a stupid AWB that does not allow flash suppressors) and like them quite a bit. Muzzle control is excellent. Subjectively speaking, there is a slightly louder report over a similar rifle with an A2. This is the trade-off you get with any brake/compensator, but I'd rate the FSC556 as much kinder than many of the other brakes out there. Living in a ban state, I've heard almost all of them at the range. The BattleComp 1.5 is one I haven't used yet and it will likely go on my next upper. I intend to put these two side by side with a decibel meter and something to measure the concussion to the sides. |

I tried the fsc on a member's recommendation and I was was impressed enough to get a second one (for another rifle, of course).
You can find decent prices on the EE. I recommended the fsc to a buddy, he's a covert too. And yes, you will get funny looks from others at the range.

Quoted: What?? I cant hear you?? Oh Yes the FSC556. What?? oh Yeah I like it. ITS A LOUDENER The FSC isn't as loud as other compensators, though. I have one on a rifle kept compliant for my homestate of NY. Noticeably louder, but not as punishing as some of the others, especially those that came on factory rifles during the Ban Era. |
fsc is good, but id get a breakout over it. Its $100 and according to a couple people here, it blows the pws out of the water. Better compensating, directs the blast better and was not at loud to the shooter as the pws. Id bet the FH properties are similar. My friend has a fsc, and it works as advertised, but id definitely give the breakout a hard look. Its new so theres not as many people with them yet.
Trident1982:
Eta....The brakeout is spectacular but got maligned by the first real AAR on the new 16" SS mrp barrel. The large port at 12 o'clock and then the two large side ports at 3 and 9 o'clock absolutely lock this rig down when using a bipod...aka eliminates bipod bounce and its amazing how by just adding that new muzzle device this rig never loses the target sight picture through the glass between shots. Kinda scared by using brakes or radical muzzle devices on precision guns and usually prefer just a standard 51t blackout but this brakeout is a helluva piece of kit....I def. hate my old fsc556 now and wish I only had bought this sooner. [farther down the page] Its an exceptional new item that actual does its damn job without all the headaches that come with brakes that run as efficient as this brakeout does. Since its an AAC product it will def. not get the T&E's and love that it deserves but for what its worth I could not endorse the device more and I can promise it would put the fsc556 outta business if buyers tried both side by side before buying as the brakeout is SO MUCH more efficient in terms of not only reduced gun movement but almost as important, this unit ports the gases so nicely and what would appear to be a good bit more uniform than that gnarly fsc556 with massive concussive report and that cool ability to catch shit on fire if positioned over a flammable support and successive rds a shot. I was relieved to see this device have zero detrimental effect on precision applications whereas recently the great folks who make the battlecomps expressly rec. NOT running these on precision applications. From Here |
