How many uppers do you use with one lower.  With the design of the ar's its is easy to change out uppers so how many people have one lower for multipul uppers or is this really not the best way to go.

I tried it but just kept ending up with complete guns. I always tend to want a different grip or stock for each configuration and justify it by telling myself that lowers are cheap. You might have better self control than me.

Same... I tried 2 uppers for one lower and that lasted about 3 days.  They tend to reproduce.

I had 3 ARs and 2 spare uppers...now I have 5 ARs

I had 3 complete AR's then I decided I needed a .22lr upper so now I have 4 uppers and 3 lowers.

Right now its 1:1

For awhile it was 3 uppers to two lowers but I couldn't resist building another lower to mate the extra upper with.

Right now I have 4:1. So much easier to buy upper parts and build from good deals on EE and being too busy to get a lower transferred. They will soon turn into 5:2 or 6:3.  Need a higher paying job for my addiction.

Right now it is 6 to 4 but that could change at any time.

I have one SBR lower and will only buy uppers. I can put any configuration upper on it. I will never own a barrel longer than 14.5" no matter what caliber I want to shoot. The only exception is a SPR upper I'd like to build but I like my lower's stock/grip configuration so it will be fine on that lower. I would still like to buy another lower to build my wife a .22lr rifle and having a 14.5" clone of my work rifle w/ perm FH so I can take it to carbine classes in non-SBR states.

Right now it is 1:1. While I've picked up a spare upper in the past a complete lower has always ended up going with it. I figure it isn't that much to have another complete lower and since that is the "firearm" I'd rather have another. That way if another scare/ban comes around I'll be ready.

I will say I have a zombie defense lower and a c7 upper right now that are both stripped. Not sure what I'm going to make out of them yet.

Lowers are cheap. Spare uppers always become complete rifles.

I've always maintained a ratio of more lowers then uppers since that's where most of the moving parts live .
The lower also takes the brunt of external forces from rough handling  .

I strive for a 1:1 ratio.

+1

I could buy lowers all day.  Its the uppers that cost the money.

I just recently contracted BRS and just have one lower. I have the 16" .450 Bushmaster upper on it now with a Bushnell 3200 3-9X40 for hunting. I also just received a new 5.56 upper the other day from Core 15 (the $425 ARFCOM special) that's looking awful sad without it's own lower so I will be getting a new one soon. Going to get one from Zombie Defense too, cool lower and supports local business.

I'm not really a fan of modularity, I'd rather just pick up another gun.  That said, I actually have more lowers than uppers right now.

Before I had an SBR, no, it was 1:1.  Now, I don't keep extra lowers around since I have a couple uppers for my SBR lower.  I may build another Title 1 AR in the future - maybe - but I'll definitely buy the upper first.

currently 11 uppers to 9 lowers

INHO, this only makes sense if you want multiple long range/target rifles and can only afford one geissele trigger. Otherwise, building lowers is cheap enough, might as well have multiple rifles.

I can't do it, my lowers and uppers seek equilibrium. Hell, it's hard enough to keep a spare BCG from growing into a complete rifle!

3 uppers 5.56 6.8 and .50 and 1 Lower. I definately need some lowers. I allready have 4 stocks and 3 grips and an extra reciever extention and buffer kit. Somehow this 1 Lower is going to become 4 rifles. I know it. But I do want a Geiselle Trigger so it may be awhile longer.

I've got a couple of uppers I run on my lower(s). But my RR M16 gets the most use, and the most amount of different uppers run on it. I've got 4 or 5 that get run.

I am sitting on 3 lowers and only 2 uppers right now. I normally keep it 1:1, but money got tight and I had to sell something...

For Title I firearms, I don't see a reason to have multiple uppers for individual lowers.  But with Title II firearms, there is every reason in the world to have all the different uppers you want.  Between the cost and paperwork issues of Title II firearms, uppers are really the cheapest and part of the deal.
