| Since, I want to build a new M4gery, would it be okay to buy a 14.5 inch barrel, permanently attached a flasher hider that would make the overall length of the barrel 16" is that legal? or does just the barrel itself have to be over 16" without a muzzle device in order for it not to be an SBR? |

Screw this onto the barrel, drill a hole (making sure you don't go all the way through the barrel), drop the pin inside, tack over the hole then grind/mill it down until you're happy with the results. http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-A2X-Extended-A2-Flash-Hider-Suppressor-p/bcm%20a2x.htm |
| The theory is simple. Any steel extension permanently attached to the end of the barrel becomes a part of the barrel. If it also functions as a brake/flash hider that's okay. In other words, the flash hider is no longer that - it's now a barrel extension. It is of no concern to the law if the extension is rifled or not - the idea of the law was to eliminate illegal short-barreled rifles which gangsters were carrying under their overcoats. |
