I say if it makes you love your rifle and shoot it more, why not? You will no doubt get responses from the purists or battle rifle only crowd as to why you shouldn't do this or that wood doesn't belong on an AR for that matter. It's yours do what makes you happy and shoot the heck out of it. I would be interested in seeing the finished product should you decide to do this. |

That's a pretty attractive rifle, even without a glossy metal finish. One of these days I'm going to build an A1 style rifle and get some nice walnut for it, so more power to you man Personal preference, I'm not much on glossy but I think it could work if you decide to try it. Let us know how it works out if you do! |

They only thing i would think of would be that in order to get your black chrome finish the parts will have to be stripped of the anodizing right? When they then put on the finish you might have issues with tolerances due to varying thicknesses? Possibly? Im not a metal finishing expert so i don't know. Another thing would be will the new finish be as durable as the hard anodizing currently on there? Regardless of anything... that looks like a DPMS sportical setup there with wood furniture... a new finish job like your talking could possibly cost as much as the entire rifle is worth? Then you have fingerprints on the shiny black to deal with. If i was you id look into getting a nice Billet upper and lower set... possibly in a different anodize color? http://shop.si-defense.com/v/vspfiles/photos/SI%20223%20MS-GEN2-3T.jpg something like that? Is this a Mega Set? |

Is this a Mega Set? Nope SI Defense I got a forged lower from them in clear anodize recently. I like that their billet uppers have a rail that can be attached to the 9 o"clock position... pretty neat. |
