The other day I was in a shop talking AR and one of the saleman told me to hold off buying until the beginning of next year. Basically said they were expecting some big drop in prices on AR's. Anyone else hearing this???

I have not heard anything. I would guess that future price drops being "good" depends on what they are on. FN dropping the price on the SCAR $500 would be exciting news. 10% of S&W M&P carbines or a few free mags or a $50 rebate doesn't mean shit to me. Generic InsertBrandNameHere AR's do not interest me when there are high-grade quality carbines on the market for marginally more money. There is a small premium to go from consumer-grade plinkers to proven brands. (compare a stag, cmmg, rra, DTI basic carbine to Colt 6920's for $1199 to $1299 at most) After absorbing this marginal premium, most of my money is tied up in optics, rails, lights, etc. Those are NOT going anywhere in price. My guess is that your gun shop is overpriced to start with, and will be adjusting their prices accordingly. No idea why they wait until the new year. |
I would not wait for price drops and shit. Honestly, when I built my dream a/r, there was nothing out there that was going to stop me. That being said, even if I would have had to fork out a significant more amount at a certain period of time to get what I wanted then so be it. I was just really really determined to get my gun. So, depending on how determined and impatient you are its up to you whether getting the ar now is on your priorities list. If it is top of your list of priorities then you should not give a shit about a price drop. I didnt.
As the recession continues and more people find themselves without a job, the biggest market will be in used AR's as people are forced to sell them to pay bills or to eat with. Complete rifles, accessories and the like will drop and the manufacturers will adjust prices to meet demand. When families cannot afford the home they live in, how long do you think that ACOG will last before it's sold off.
Supply v Demand. As our troops are pulled home Ammo prices should continue to fall. I don't know why they expect AR prices to drop. People with disposable income is not going to greatly increase in the next few months. If anything the prices should be lower now and raise as we emerge more from the recession.
