I looked in the various tacked threads and didn't find anything so hopefully this is not out of line.

I was surfing earlier and came across the AR 5.7 uppers. In particular the 11.5 and 6.5" uppers have my interest. With the 6.5" you would use a silencer for the "SD" look.

My questions are:

1. Does anyone have a 5.7 upper and what are the good and bad points?
2. What other manufacturers should I look at and in particular site sponsors?

Any pics of your weapons?

I have one bought it used seems to be ok haven't shot it alot but I do like the fact it holds 50 RD> in the mag. I just use it for my truck gun so I don't see it very often unless it slides out from under back seat I think they are GTG. Still have not tried on my full auto lower don't know if the bolt will work.

Why would you want a 5.7?  (other than a toy to play with)  The ammo is not cheap, and other calibers perform better.  If it's because it has a 50 rd. mag, why not just wait for the double stack 5.56 mags?

If you want something that will kill more than varmits, try a 7.5 in 6.8spc.

Honestly I have all the basis covered on the self/home/SHTF front. From an LMT MRP CQB 10.5" to a Benelli M1S90 to and Aresenal SAM7 to a UMP to a Rem 700...etc etc. I buy/build most of my weapons for a practical purpose. I saw some pics of the guns I mentioned above and to be honest they look cool to me. So yes, despite my functional bias, I am actually considering getting a weapon based solely on form. If I could get one, I would be totally gay for a KAC PDW

I have one.  It's a pretty neat toy.  I have too much money in it, however.

I had one. HEAVY HEAVY HEAVY, that thing weighed a ton. The 50rd mag was neat, but 5.7... really? I found its only effective use as a gopher annihilator, though others will claim the rounds effectiveness due to the secret service using the P90 and the douche who murdered soldiers used the FiveSeven handgun.

It would be fun as a SBR, but that damn rail still weighs a TON.

I sold mine and never looked back.

YMMV

I like it, it shoots well and function reliably. I dont know why people think 5.7 is so expensive...its less than .223 and destroys coyotes.

The AR57 has always interested me just because I think its cool.  I still wonder why not as many people jump on the bandwagon for it.  Ammo is as cheap as 9mm is and you get HUGE magazine capacity.  Why aren't more people using it?

5.7 ammo is ~$19.99 for a box of 50 and ~$17 a box if you find a good deal... I'm not sure how that equates to "as cheap as 9mm" since 9mm can be found readily available in the sub $10 range.

Maybe its because I haven't looked but I haven't seen readily available local 9mm for under 15.  That's not to say its not there, I just haven't seen it so I stand corrected.
