I'd say good photography. It has that Canva AI background remover look to it.

I kinda would have liked to see the Marine Corps go with this as the A5 instead of the m4a1. It would have been interesting to see how it fielded.

Do you have a fixed stock 20" gun to see how that compares?

Poor photography and an AI background editing app called Photoroom.

That photo was taken on my bedroom floor. They turn out a lot better with natural lighting. (Pretend it has a FSB for the sake of the thread.)

I do have a 20" rifle stock gun

Edit
The Diss and the 20 " shoot very similarly but the Diss being maybe slightly softer shooting.. It is one of my my favorites when shooting.
It is a 1x8 rifle gas barrel.

The only possible justification for a dissipator configuration is to achieve the longest possible sight radius on a 16" barrel. That's only an advantage if you're using open sights. Once you put any sort of optic on the gun, any possible advantage of the dissipator is lost.

The disadvantage is either 1.) extra weight (from having both a separate gas block in addition to the sight tower) or 2.) feeding issues related to locating the gas port near the end of the barrel. Which disadvantage you experience is dependent on how you build the barrel.

Again, if you're only running open sights, a dissipator might make some sense. With an optic, it's pointless.

The suppressed Diss is probably about an inch longer than the 20" rifle. They are pretty close.
Don't pay attention to the stocks, one is an A1 and the other is an A2.  The A2 is a  longer stock.

A softer cycle and longer life on parts.

Longer handguard that looks better than the ff rails. Easier to disassemble the front half in the field for maintenance.

We older guys and gals didn't have the option of free float rails and flat top uppers when we were young. Back then the dissipator was a nice option compared to a standard carbine with a 16" barrel. The longer hand guard and sight radius was a big plus.

I know, what's the point of a scope on a dissy?  I have bad eyes and I like having an etched reticle.  I can't shoot irons past 100 yards or so (can't see crap) and tbh, dissy is a vibe.

Cali spec Anderson Dissipator upper on a Riflegear lower.  Handguard is MI MLOK drop in.

Does anyone have a source for in-stock 16" rifle gas barrels with FSBs?  Last one I've seen of any known quality was the Brownells 605 barrels but they've been out of stock for a while.

They say these are in stock, but you know how that goes. Give it a shot and good luck.

Thanks.  I backordered one of the Brownells barrels about a week ago but was curious about other options.

Update: I got the barrel last week from Brownells, so it does seem like they're filling backorders even if they don't list the barrel as coming back in stock.

I've casually been on the lookout for a CHP Colt dissipator for years and they never come up for sale. Through my various buying/selling/trading I ended up with a Colt A2 upper and OEM2 barrel so I decided to make my own. I tapped the hole in the bottom of the FSB so I could set screw it in place for drilling, using the handguard to set the length, drilled and taper reamed the holes and it came out perfect, I should be able to get it out this week to sight it in.

Local shop has this for sale.  Looks to be a mid length PSA Freedom dissipator barrel, S&W lower, and fixed stock.

The shortened bayonet is a custom job combined with an extended A2 flash rider.

The carry handle is crap, no markings and obviously air soft or similar.

Attached File

ETA:

I bought it for a price I couldn't pass up.

The Chinesium carry handle was left at the shop and replaced with a square forge marked one I had.
