Looking at getting my first AR. Leaning hard towards Rock River My goal is a light weight all around carbine for SHTF,Home defence, plinking {haven fun},and small game, maybe even 3 gun someday. Hears my questions. I think a mid length light weight barrel with a low profile gas block to start. I hear chrome is the way to go but could affect accuracy? Plus the L/W barrels supposedly heat up to quickly? As for a hand guard, I want a free float full length or mid tube; but not sure what to pick.RRA does not have what I would like,V-TAC,except for maybe there half quad. I dont feel full rails are a nesescity for a non combat or full tactical rifle.Plus if it wont make a big difference in accuracy or weight the standard plastic mid hand gaurds look fine to me. All I plan to hang is a light and or vertical grip, maybe a combo like surefire offers. The RRA operator car stock,RRA  tactical break or smith vortex seem like good choices. RRA is offering a free upgrade to a chrome bolt carrier group, sounds good also.Does this seem like I''m on the right track . I am planing on a scope and mini red dot setup for sights no irons planed dont want the weight if they will rarly see use.Lastly hoag or ergo grip is there a big difference? Looking for addvice.

Rock river is a good company that makes a great rifle. If light weight is what your looking
for you might want to look at YHM.

RRA makes good stuff.  I'd just buy it with the normal plastic handguards and then try this:

Troy TRX

It will extend past your low-pro gas block. Like this:

the only issue with this is the fact that RRA does not offer a OR setup yet so you would have to knock off the Front Sight/GB assembly just to put that rail on or almost any 1 pc FF HG...
Not a big deal, but if its his first AR then i doubt he will have the tools to do this...

Get a carbine with iron sights and learn how to use them. Chrome lining in barrel won' t matter either way for

what you want, I would get it. Chome bolt carrier is a waste of money

Adco sells rra, they will install any handguard you want, if you want one of the tube style with small rails for a light, that will be fine. I would not buy a rifle rra direct, rra charges ridiculous full retail
