Is it absolutely nesesary to switch out your bolt with a new one after a barrel change? If so, bolt only or do i need a completely new BCG to go with the new barrel.
I will be changing out the 16" middy barrel my BCM came with stock, for a 18.5" Ultramatch SPR unit.

Just asking.

Thanks

Shouldn't be an issue. Others may disagree, but I've done it before with nary an ill effect.

By the way, the BCG along with the bolt have less than 500 rounds through.

Just so you know.

BCG has no bearing on headspace only the bolt. if you are really concerned buy a field headspace gauge from brownells and check.

Barely broken in.  Look at the backs of the lugs, if all are shiny, the bolt is broken in.

That is the reason for the caution, every bolt/barrel extension will eventually "wear in" with SLIGHT increase in headspace (on the order of 0.0005"), then headspace will remain constant.  Swapping bolts will cause this wear in to progress.   One swap?  Not usually an issue.

My concern is accuracy, will a switch have an ill effect on accuracy? The purpose of this rifle will be 300-600 yard shooting so it's important that no accuracy is lost.

Thanks

How you install the barrel will be a larger factor than a slightly used bolt (500 rounds might as well be new).

If you want get a new bolt and allow both to wear as one.

That's what i was figuring. Would you explain how could i bust up the accuracy of my rifle on the barrel install process? This is my first install i don't want to be fiddling with it after it's bolted on.

Thanks

Just make sure the barrel nut is torqued to spec.
