Are you asking about the buffer tube?
DPMS builds are commercial so far as I know. But if you just have a lower you can put either commercial or Mil-Spec buffer tube on it.

DPMS is commercial. Unless you order direct from them with a mil spec. In my experience most of the lower priced complete lowers/rifles come with commercial. But that may be changing as price points shrink in the AR world.

Any AR lower can accept either a mil spec or commercial tube.

My DPMS lower receiver is milled to acept a DIAS. So it's one pin hole from being Mil Spec.

No, it wouldn't be.

Yep you're right. I double checked a M-16 lower receiver and they are milled completely different than an AR. I stand corrected.

besides the shelf having to be milled down further to fit the GI fire control group... what other items do you see wrong?

OP: the majority of forged lowers are good to buy. Including DPMS lowers, they are forged and as stated by altopwescap, they will accept a registered drop in auto sear if your inclined to buy one.
