I have a S&W M&P 15 lower.  I want help in choosing a complete upper.

I have these AR's now
Colt 6920
LMT lower/Noveske 14.5 upper
S&W M&P 15 complete
Les Baer
Colt 9mm AR
Bushmaster Carbon 15 9mm

I do not want full rails or fancy sights.  A comfortable handguard is important.  I want a very reliable AR.  I will not add anything to the upper that is not essential.  While price is not important, I do not want to pay for bells and whistles I will never use.  This will be my SHTF AR.

Thanks

With the collection you already have, I'm confused as to how you don't already have a SHTF gun or why you would need help choosing an upper.    Don't mean to sound like a dick, but you've clearly done some research before....BCM and handguards of your choice?

You have a Noveske that is the perfect SHTF  upper

Let's try this another way.

What should I build with this lower considering the AR's I already have.

Since you dont want rails or fancy sights, I say you cant go wrong with a BCM midlength. Put on some Cav Arms C8's and a DD A1 rear sight and that should good to go.

I stick with my first response...BCM upper.  If carbine, go with Magpul MOE handguards.  DD, Larue or LMT fixed rear.  I'd still rock the Noveske or Colt in a SHTF scenario.  However, isn't your SHTF gun always whatever one you can get to first?

BCM or Spike's upper of your choice.

20" A2 or midlength (spike's or BCM)

I'd put an a1/a2 stock on the m&p lower and get yourself a 20 inch upper. Get a bravo company one with removable carry handle or find a used colt m16 upper with attached carry handle.

I shoot my 20 inch a4 style gun more then my 16 inch.

The other option would be to form 1 the lower and build a sbr if your state allows it. Just got my form 1 back on my lmt lower to build a 10.5 sbr. Just got back from vacation so I haven't ordered the upper yet myself, got some bills to take care of.

6920 would be my SHTF rifle. if you want a no frills upper that is simple try to find a 6520 upper. It would be a good SHTF and no BUIS or optic to mess with.

Now you are talking.  This A1/A2 stock 20" barrel is what I had in Army basic training in 1970.

What is the best way to this build with my MP15 lower?

BCM 20" upper http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-M16-Government-20-Upper-Receiver-Group-p/bcm-urg-gov-20.htm

Or, you could buck the trend and get a rock river national match upper http://www.rockriverarms.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_id=268

LPK (2-stage, giessele or what not, your choice) A2 stock kit and you're done

20" A2 is next on my list to get

Is it a complete lower or a stripped one?

If it is complete I'd get a complete a2 stock kit(or a used colt a1 kit) and just replace the stock. I personally like the moe grips and the ergo grips. Reason the grip on mine isn't black is that raininer called me after ordering saying that they had a stock error and didn't have black in stock(at the time most places didn't). They said they had it in tan and I said that would be fine. Get a real m16 sling or the larue rifle sling(which mine has and it rocks). I prefer the extended trigger guards for looks more then anything but they can help with gloves. For the 10 bucks the moe one costs it doesn't matter either way. Mine 20 inch has the stock bravo company trigger. If your m&p has the stock sw trigger it should be fine. If you are building up from a stripped lower I might go with an armalite or rra parts kit with the 2 stage trigger.

For the upper the bravo company one is hard to beat unless you want a a2 upper or a heavy barrel. For an a2 upper I'd look at a colt m16 upper. Don't know if I'd want the extra weight of the heavy barrel unless I was planning on adding optics. The pic of mine has a lan-clay bayonett on the front of it I picked up from rainier arms. Only other thing I did was add an lmt ambi mag selector.

Edit: When I first built this gun it was on an essential arms lower with dpms parts kit and stag a2 stock kit. Had KNS pins as well. I ened up switching to the bravo company lower as I prefer that the names match. Got the brava company lower and a armalite stock and switched it over. Ended up selling the essential arms lower with some other spare parts I had lying around(youngs bcgs).

You've got a nice collection of 5.56 rifles (and 9mm), why not go for a different caliber. I know my next build WILL be a .458 SOCOM partly because I shoot .458win mags and partly because the SOCOM uses a standard 5.56 magazine.

Or maybe build a AR Pistol?

Just food for thought.
