Hi everyone.
I just purchased my first AR...a S&W 5.56 optics ready. The salesman recommended this forum as the premier place to lear and I have been reading all weekend. I am an avid hunter and have been around firearms for my all of my life. but, boy is there a lot to learn about this aspect of firearms. I apologize in advance for any dumb questions or comments I may have / make I look forward to growing my knowledge base thanks for listening |

Welcome aboard. As for mistakes. A great friend, gunsmith and master machinist once told me this and I quote.
"I got good at this stuff by breaking a lot more shit than I fixed in the beginning"
Just remember there all just parts and tools. Have fun and enjoy the BRD. |

Pics of ALL newly purchased ARs are mandatory and huge bonus points if it's with a girlfriend shooting it. |

Stick around. The members here are amazing and can answer pretty much any question you come up with. I have learned so much in the past few months just lurking and asking the occasional question. Also being a newbie, I learned the hard way that you should use the search feature to try to find the answer to your question before you ask it in the forum.
Finally, believe everyone when they tell you this is a DISEASE and you will not stop at just one AR. I just bought my first a few months ago and already want another in a different configuration. Welcome and enjoy ARFCOM! |

Welcome. Glad to have you. This is a great place to learn and every time you think you know a little bit you learn a lot more. Keep on reading and don't buy anything yet except a sling (a standard GI type will work great for now), 7 mags (Pmag or aluminum GI for now), and a boatload of ammo (anything cheap for now). If your rifle didn't come with iron sights get a decent set. It might be a good idea for you to get a .22lr conversion kit to save on ammo. Don't buy any optics or accessories just yet. Do lots of reading and lots of shooting before you buy any extras. When you do, don't go cheap.
Again, glad to have you. You'll have a lot of fun with that rifle. |
