Does anyone know of a better then "basic" polymer handguard for a MIdlength AR15?  I want to save the money and take a little time to make a good 4 rail system selection.

is the 20.00 job good enough till I buy a good one? As for rails I have been looking at; MI T9, YHM  Light rail 9" and other low cost FF systems, any you would recommend?

Also, is the Magpul MBUS Rear BUIS good enough for my first AR or should I spend the money on a good site and buy the plastic forend, I am locked in analysis paraliysis?

Thanks for the help

Also are the VLTOR Charging handles worth the money or will the 22.00 CH do just fine?

yes. the standard handgaurds and $22 charging handle will serve you well. as will the MBUS (no experience but have seen many people run them) personally i like troy rear sights, you can get deals on the EE for them. also check the EE for rails, i got a DD omega for about $60 less then retail and it was in mint cond. i
assume you're talking about the BCM gunfighter CH? it doesn't do anything that a regular charging handle won't do, it is made stronger and designed to be more durable, especially for charging with your support hand it seems tho, but unless you think you're gonna run your gun hard enough to break/bend your CH i'd save your money and buy the basic stuff (which is plenty good) and buy shit tons of ammo, after shooting enough you'll find out what you want to add on.

ETA magpul is making midlength MOE handgaurds for sometime this summer if you can wait for those, gives you some more options then standard HGs

The difference between a standard CH and the Gunfighter is night and day, it's truly worth the extra money IMO.

Is the BCM Gun Fighter worth it?

I've learned that if you wants rails, spending money for good rails is well worth it. You may ask yourself, "Why spend an additional $100+ over a YHM or MI on a DD or LT?" That additional $100 gets you all of the smaller details that really make a world of difference like weight savings, cleaner machining, no sharp edges, easier installation, much better profile(less bulk), and a profile that is much more comfortable in your hands. Having owned UTG, YHM, Troy, and DD rails (all but UTG being free float) I will only use DD rails for the above mentioned reasons.

The MBUS is just fine for the majority of users. Although it's "plastic" that "plastic" is the same stuff that our beloved, indestructible Pmags are made of. I have a few sets of MBUS and have no issues with them nor do I doubt their ability to stand up to rough use. Would I subject them to sandbox conditions? Not personally but I wouldn't be surprised if they held up just fine. Unless you plan on beating the hell out of your stuff the MBUS will fit the bill perfectly, especially if you're looking to save a buck.

Thanks for the insight on rails.  IF you did only have the 140 or so to spend would YHM or the MI be a good solution?

Yep getting the MBUS and AFG both in OD green

if you're looking at just a general use carbine or self defense gun, i would look at some good non FF rails. daniel defense makes one now, and you can find some used knights armarment rails (the kind the military uses) on the EE for really good prices. if all you want is a light and maybe a vertical grip on there, they will serve you well and hold up to the abuse.

He has a middy. DD EZ and KAC RAs are not made for middies.

He has another thread where he is trying to decide between YHM and MI FF rails. YMMV
