| I was in Home Depot trying to find a rubber O ring to shim my BCM upper and the guy helping me asked what it was for and at a loss for words and feeling defiant I said an 'assault rifle' and explained where I was going to put it. He said he knew a little about M16s, specifically the A2 being former Army and he said between 91' and 96' the military deviated from Colt and went with another maker that was a chronic POS, with, jams, clogs, FTF, etc. Does this guy know what he's talking about and if so who was the other company? |

First what are you doing shimming your BCM with an o-ring? Do you know what he's talking about? I've never heard of shimming an upper with an o-ring... would like to know. He's probably trying to eliminate the upper/lower wiggle that my buddy ended up using an earplug to eliminate. |

I had a real live Bushmaster in the Army in the mid 90's. It was full auto. Our whole platoon did. Sorry no pics, but I remember the snake. Seemed to work ok though. Also had FN, Armalite, and of course Colt. Armalite? Must have been old Colt M16 receivers marked " Armalite " (as some were) since the modern company by that name only purchased the Armalite name in 1995 and has never supplied rifles to the government |

The only companies I have ever heard of making rifles for the .mil are Colt (only make the M4 now) GM Hydromatic (during the late 60s early 70s, only A1s) and FN made A2 and A4s from the late 80s on. I got to carry all three. Harrington & Richardson as well. |
| Very well could have been an Armalite marked Colt. I was an 11bang and really didn't give a crap at the time. The Bushmaster always made me think though. (more like WTF is this?) Probably was a Colt upper, but I distinctly remember firing the weapon on full. Never have seem any since. Was in the lovely shit hole at Howard AFB, so maybe we borrowed them? I know we didn't deploy with our own. Who knows............ |

colt also makes a few M16A4s
from about 88 FN has made M16A2s and then later A4s bushmaster has never supplied M16s to the military for combat use by US troops, some are sold to other contries security forces and such armalite has never made a real M16/A1/A2/A3/A2?M4/M4a1 that is for combat use, using colts TDP. AMTU target/raqnge guns are not M16s that bushmaster rumor pops up all the time and is proven to be BS every time. |

Question - "Does this guy know what he's talking about" Answer - No...... Probably not, as he said the Aussies that trained with them carried a rifle that had a glass that was incorporated in the upper and came to pieces when you dropped it and by that point I thanked him for his service and was looking for a checkout. But the fact I couldn't answer him in detail on all the M16 sub contracts made me curious. |

Bushie supplied 65 XM4s to the US Gov't for ???? Perhaps testing, or ??? But they did supply them. They were built on lowers supplied by Eagle Arms, Coal Valley, Illinois. This HAS been confirmed on this and other AR sites. Let me guess why the army did not take delivery of any more bushmasters… Probably went something like this: Apparently they estimated the cost would be in the $1500 range, but once they began production the price jumped to $2700 for a non chrome lined 1:9 barrel…. |

Nah, it was because they came out purple. |

All of my lowers have always been colt - M16 in basic, a few different M4's after basic.
Couldn't tell you about the upper. Ya gotta remember that army people don't know shit. They only know what their team leader/drill sgt/squad leader/1st sgt told them. There are so many rumors, myths, and just downright bullshit that is passed down. Carrying a weapon and cleaning it doesn't mean you know anything else about it. Oh, besides the army effective ranges/weights/rates of fire. |
